Charlie's POV:

"Yeah, come sit with us", Darcy exclaims.
Nick smiles and politely agrees, which I'm glad about. It's just the fact that he sat next to his former love that bugs me.
I snap out of it and remeber to be polite, "You should meet everyone!
You know Tara, this is Darcy, Tao, and Elle", I gesture to each one of them as their names slip my mouth.
"Oh, yeah Tao, I see you here and there in the halls, it's nice to finally meet you!" Nick waves from across the table.
Tao just sits back in the sofa crossing his arms:
"Yeah, hi."
Elle handshakes Nick.
"Oh, I feel like we already know eachother! Can't point my finger from where...", Nick raises his eyebrow, questioning if he got it right.
"Yes we do! I went to your school until last year. I transfered to Higgs after I transitioned. Truham wasn't really the right fit for me, you know?"
"Oh, that's right!" Nick releases a relaxing sigh, "In Truham even lunch feels like a battlefield. I can only imagine how hard it must've been there for you. No matter the case, it's nice to meet you again, Elle!"

Elle smiles. You can see in her eyes she's glad that at least one of the guys from our school isn't a sandwich throwing, banter talking idiot like the rest. Tao and I don't count since we are both idiots according to her.

"I feel like we missed someone. Wait, where's Aled?", I look around for him, as if he's a puppy we lost along the way.
"He had 'a thing' so he couldn't come",
Tao explains, arms still crossed and gaze pointed away from Nick.
"And Isaac?" Elle leans forward, bending over the table in search for Tao's face.
"He told me he was sick, but that didn't seem to bother him too much".
"That's because he can stay at home and read all day without being forced to go out", Elle adds.

Elle's words are 100% true, which makes me chuckle. Despite the laugh we share, I still can't ignore the harsh feeling in my chest. Tara and Nick were together once, what if their old feelings start bubbling again? It's really not that hard, especially with first loves. What if they become a thing? Then they date for a few years and decide they love eachother so much that they get married and have kids and I am just a background character in their lives, suffering because...
Because...
Oh my God...
I am being jelaous...

For Nick.

My eyes search for his. Realization hits me, but not as hard as his gaze that meets mine. Suddenly it's as if a thousand suns have risen just to be reflected in his eyes. And GOD, that smile. That beautiful warm smile that makes me melt everytime.

It's a longing kind of look that we exchange. I think, maybe I'm just delusional and see things I want to see. Looking into him, I now realize what I'm feeling for Nick. I think I flet it all along, I just couldn't let myself because of Ben. Now that barrier is gone, I get to feel whatever I want. Still, something separates us. Between Nick and I stands a wall, only now it's made of glass. That means we see eachother, but cannot be touched. How do I know that he likes me back? I don't even know if he likes boys or girls. Well, I know he liked girls, but nothing has come up since.

Tao watches us, irritation showing on his face. Darcy is switching looks between Nick and I and Tao, visibly amused about what's going on. Elle catches us all having indirect conversation.

Elle: "Charlie, come outside for a smoke with me."
I am confused: "But you don't even smo-"
"Come on, quickly! Tao you too!"
I don't want to leave Nick alone with Tara (yeah, I know how that sounds), but before I can protest, Elle grabs me by the arm and pulls me out of my seat.
