Charlie's POV:
As I stand outside, night sky flows vast and secure above me. Muffled sounds of music and clamor come from inside a huge white mansion towering over my puny body. Two statues creating a portal for the entrance loom over me, inviting me to my inevitable doom. My fingers twidle together as I stand there, shaking with every step I try to take. "Come on Charlie, you can do this", whisper comes out of my mouth, a desperate try of bravery. "Go in, meet Nick and the rest will be just fine", I flinch at the sound of laughter from the mansion. A huge white building reminding me how not rich I am, filled with people who made me feel like shit for most of highschool. What a perfect little present.
I take a deep breath and slowly but surely walk into my worst nightmare.
...
Muffled sound of music from before become a thunderstorm breaking trough my eardrums as I stand inside a huge dark space filled with people, mostly strangers. Harry was really fishing those popularity points. Flashing colourful lights and people dancing while I stand here all by myself really create a beautiful contrast with loneliness inside my chest. Right now, the only thing I want to do is find Nick.
Something cold and sudden drips down my chest. "So sorry man", a guy in the red cap dissappeares into the crowd. "Shit", I spit out as I try to tap away the alcohol staining my shirt. After a few moments of annoyed tapping I gave up. A sigh follows my hands dropping beside me. I guess I'll be stinking of alcohol for the whole night. What a great start. All I can hope for is that my mum doesn't come in a kilometer radius near me. Her nose is like that of a hound dog.
I break trough the crowd not really caring who I push aside, exit is more important than who gets stabbed in the rib by my bony elbow. As I reach a big door frame, a loud giggle comes from it's side. My eyes almost fall out from the sight. It was no other than Nick himself. In dark green T-shirt which made his caramel eyes glow in the dark. Broad shoulders, stunning smile, yes it is him. As I stand there in awe of him, I almost didn't notice the giggles didn't come from his mouth, rather from the bunch of girls surrounding him. My heart withers a bit, even though it shouldn't. We are friends, I should be happy that he is doing so well with flirting and charming girls...
But I'm not.
It was my idea first. I had a chance and I blew it. Now I had to face the consequences.Soon enough, two suns make contact with me, suddenly wider and fuller of light. Tension from before melts when Nick walks trough the crowd to me. Warmth of his voice runs through me, "Hi, Charlie!".
"Hiii!", Oh my God you stupid little twink, you could've said it even shorter. I shake butterflies in my stomach off:
"ʰᵒʷ ᵃʳᵉ ʸᵒᵘ"
"WHAT?"
"ⁱ ˢᵃⁱᵈ ʰᵒʷ ᵃʳᵉ ʸᵒᵘ"
"I CAN'T HEAR YOU! THE MUSIC'S TOO LOUD!"
After a bit of back and forth, I give up, grab Nick's wrist and drag him outside.
We stand in the huge white kitchen now, puring punch- I mean- soda into plastic cups and chatting over the once clean white counter now spilled with punch all over. I mean... soda.
I notice that he is ignoring his friends who are standing just a couple of steps away from us. This reminds me of him saying how he always goes to the smoothie place to feel safe:
"Hey, I- I never asked you what you were doing in the smoothie place the other day"
Nick's smile suddenly stiffens: "Oh, you know, seeing what new things they have to offer", he scratches the back of his neck. Something's not right, I can feel it.
I search for his gaze pointed to the ground: "Does it have anything to do with your friends?"
Nick looks into his drink for a second, his mind drifting before he speaks:
"They were just assholes, nothing much".I look over to them and notice some of them discretly but not-so-descretly pointing at us... well, at me. As I turn my gaze back to Nick a burst of laughter comes from where they stand. Nick's jaw tenses, I'm far too used to it by now to give a shit:
"You know what? Who gives a shit about them?"
Nick's gaze meets mine.
"We can have fun as much as they are", I grab a cup and fill both of ours to their brim, "Bottoms up!"
Nick raises his cup to meet mine and drinks the soda until there's not a drop left. We made this into a game. Everytime the lads start laughing we drink a full cup. Well, they sure aren't funny because we only drank like three or four, but it was enough to get us giggling over nothing.
"And THEN he was like", Nick WHEEZES, I've never heard him like that and I start wheezing too.
"You can't even finish a sentnce", laughter barely lets my words out, "You're THAT drunk".
He points a limp finger at me, folding his mouth as he wants to say something but laughter bursts trough him again.
I nearly fall to the ground ass-first from the scene. Nothing he does make sense and he knows it and knows it's like that because he's drunk.
Hell, I'm drunk. I don't even know what I'm saying:"Come on you idiot, lets go dancing!", I grab his hand and pull him to the main room of doom: the dance floor.
...
We get to the centre. Hit by the wave of "I don't care" I raise my arms up to the sky. Nick tries to put them down: "Charlie, you're SO embarrasing!"
Despite his words, he couldn't stop giggling."Who CARES? Nobody is looking at us!"
All around us were half drunk teenagers boping their heads and dancing to their own rithm. Not even following the sweet music of Charli XCX!! How disrespectful!
Hit by the realization of our irrelevance in the crowd, for a second I get the urge to kiss Nick. REALLY hard. How can he just stand there looking at me while being so goddamn handsome?!
I shake this feeling off, atleast now that I still have some reason left. Instead I grab his shoulders and start moving them in beat.He hesitates at first, but as I continue to move his strong shoulders (that I totally DIDN'T notice) and scream-sing in his face, he relaxes and starts dancing on his own. I cheer him on, hearing my own voice trough the crowd and continue jumping to the beat.
"I LOVE THIS SONG!!", Nick screams
"THEN DANCE SUNNY BOY!!!"
Harsh bass of speakers takes us to our own bubble. It's like the two of us danced into our own little land and noone can stop us. If anyone was watching, we didn't notice. This was different than what I was used to. It was either fun hangouts at his house or another isolated place outside. This place, even though it was filled with people, felt like our own. I don't know if it was the alcohol or the atmosphere, but I didn't care. I danced my bones out, and so did Nick.
After all, I'm half-drunk tonight.
Who knows what will happen after a few more sodas?~●~●~●~●~●~●~●~●~●~●~●~●~●~●~●~
Hi, guyz!
As per usual, I didn't folow the schedule, oops! I had a crazy summer that I want to share with you trough the story. In all seriousness, it means so much to me that anyone reads this little fanfic. I started it as a way to express myself and practice writing, and now look at us! I am so proud of the community that exists. I know it's not mighty, but goddamit, it's a strong one! So thank you warriors for fighting trough the course of bad spelling and sentence building from the beggining to end. You're the real ones! And as always,
Take care <3
