Prologue: No Ordinary Girl

Mermaids. People were iffy on the topic for as long as I could remember. Me and my 3 friends were just normal girls. Until one day we weren't.

Cleo fell into the ground first, and then Emma, me and Rikki. "What are you doing? I said to stay up there and look for something to pull us up."

"And how would I know that? I'm not a mind reader." Rikki's sass was something that we needed to have in our group. I nudge her. "I like you. I have a feeling, that we're gonna be great friends." She smiles cheekily.

 Emma's eyes roll at that. "Enough, we need to find a way out to here." Then we hear, "Guys! In here." Cleo leads us into a different place. There was a pool of water in front of us.

Emma speaks up. "I'll see if there's a way out. Stay here." She jumps into the water, and we sit around it on the ground. Minutes pass and Emma still hasn't came back.

"What is taking so long?" Cleo answers Rikki. "She's a professional. She knows what she's doing." Soon she came back and convinces us to get in after her. Cleo takes a minute, and with our words of encouragement she follows our lead.

Then the moon passes overhead, and we watch in surprise as the water bubbles and sparkles. Soon it's gone and we swim out. Hearing a speaker, we get called onto a rescue boat. That was still in my memories afterwards.

Charlotte attacks us with her water powers. Then Lewis tells her, "Careful Charlotte, magic can be unpredictable." We use our weather powers after he nods at us. 

She screams, and we drop her in the Moonpool. Soon her tail disappears and reappears, and she floats to the surface as Rikki says to her smugly, "Nice legs."

The next day Charlotte is told to keep us a secret, and returns her necklace to Cleo. Me and Rikki laugh and hang out at her house, her dad saying that we were always welcomed there.

Emma and the others come over too and we watch movies all night long. My smile was contagious, the others smiling with me.

Emma went on vacation with her family, and we spent the last year of school without her around. Zane had also surprised Rikki with a cafe that they own together.

Nate had been doing a great job at making me cover my ears. And then a girl named Bella takes over for him, and we smile as she sings.

Zane talks to Rikki, "You saved us." I nod at her. "Thanks, my ears couldn't take anymore." However Cleo comes and drags us after her, making Bella curious.

"Shouldn't you be singing?" Then she answers, "No, there's something going on here. Something magical." Rikki crosses her arms. "There's no such thing as magic." Something grabs her, making us panic. Her tail is revealed, and we both stare at Bella, before we jump in after her.

She joins us, and I look shocked to see a tail. She points her head, and we speed swim after our abducted friend. We use powers to free her, and Bella uses her powers too. 

Long story short, she was mermaid since nine. And with Cleo and mine's encouragement, Bella joins our gang. She smiles, and I nod to her.

The next weeks that follow were crazy. Will finds out about Bella, and she protects us by lying that she was the only one.

And now Rikki gets kidnapped again, and with Will's help we save her, and manage to escape from the lit on fire boat. 

Sophie, Will's older sister ruins Zane's and Rikki's relationship by kissing him in front of us. He threatens to tell her secret, and we use our crystals to make a blackout in the cafe.

If that wasn't enough, a new person named Ryan gets information about the moonpool, and explores it. I get down and hide with Rikki. "You're not alone in this." I whisper, and she burns his tools. Will stops her, and we accidentally lead him to the moonpool.

Great.

Of course she kept that a secret, and it broke our friendship with the other two. However I tell Cleo that I overheard her sister tell Ryan about our time at Mako. With heavy hearts we manage to forgive each other. And Rikki and I tell them that the tentacle is not against us.

So with what happened lately, Sophie has gotten involved with his business, making my eyes narrow. He then also questions about our necklaces, making poor Cleo uncomfortable.

Her step mom tells him off, making the male apologize and walk away. Good riddance, but I knew that wasn't the last of him.

A comet. Something that hasn't happened in 100 years was going to happen, using Mako Island as a magnet. So basically we were going to die.

But now that the Moonpool was ruined by two obvious people, we decided to use the water to make the legendary Tower of Light to beam it away.

Together, hands holding we jump into the pool. Using our mermaid powers, we make a tower of water, blasting it with all of our might into the comet's path.

We awake in the moonpool, Cleo resting on Rikki's arm. "We- we did it." Bella gets up too with me, and we hug each other. 

Graduating from school took place the next day, and we get our diplomas when getting called. Lewis also came here to visit his girlfriend. We spend that night celebrating at her old cafe.

My smile is sad though. I had no partner to celebrate with here. It was sad because I liked Rikki for so long, and she already was getting over her boyfriend, I didn't want to pressure her anymore.

But for now? I was glad that we saved the world.

A month later I was swimming around Mako, taking in the surroundings. I haven't taken anything in for so long, and now that we had no more school, I was spending my time around Mako.

Rikki joined me a few times, especially when we both secretly bonded with the water tentacle. She would always challenge me into racing, and she'd always let me win.

Maybe I felt optimistic, but it felt like she's been paying more attention to me for a few days, but goes back to spending time with Bella and Cleo again.

I was swimming alone, wishing that I wasn't a mermaid. Nobody could be trusted with my secret identity. And yet I had no other friends to hang out with.

Blue eyes lighting up, I see an... interesting looking shiny thing near the island. Looking around, my hair floating under the water, I was as always expected, alone here.

I swim up to it, and touch it. I didn't expect for the thing to be a portal, and it takes me inside of it.

Coughing for air, I see through blurry eyes. All green around me, and I noticed that my tail was thankfully gone when I landed wherever I was now. 

I hear voices, but before I could see anybody, I pass out...
