POV:ARJUN

She cautiously opened the door, casting wary glances in both directions. A sound made her gaze downward.

Gasping, she clamped her hands over her mouth, dropping to her knees. Nestled in a wicker basket lay a beautiful puppy, accompanied by a bunch of vibrant tulips.

She reached for the note nestled within the basket. It read, "Please Adopt me" With a quick scan of her surroundings, she whisked the basket inside her apartment, tulips and all.

As her door clicked shut, I redirected my attention from the corridor camera to the puppy's collar cam.

She cradled the pup, placing the basket on her table, and began conversing with it. "Who left you, cutie? Your eyes are like glass balls."

I leaned back with a whiskey in hand, monitoring the CCTV feeds. She spoke to the puppy as if it understood every word. Curse those mesmerizing eyes of hers, they really make me hard.

A knock interrupted my surveillance. Closing my laptop, I looked to see who it was and only to find my mother, Indra Aadiv, standing before me, fury etched on her face.

She barged into my room, slamming the door shut. Her gaze bore into mine accusingly. "What do you think you're doing, Arjun? You made Preethi cry in front of another one of your hookups. I know everything," she seethed.

An unfamiliar anger surged within me. "Mother, dare to speak about my employee less than women and I won't hesitate to-" My words trailed off, unfinished.

My mother fixed me with an intense stare and questioned, "You won't hesitate to...? To call off the wedding or kill me, or what?" I took a deep breath and replied, "Yes, I will hesitate to kill you or call off the wedding, but I won't hesitate to kill Mr. Kailash Biswas or anyone else who is important to you but not to me."

Upon hearing my words, my mother took a step back, closing her eyes momentarily.

Then she asked, "Are you really the same seven-year-old Arjun who used to orbit around me and your father, obedient to our every word?"
