Y/N's head swiveled to the door. There was another knock, then a ring from the doorbell. Y/N got up quickly to answer it. A policeman was on the other side of the door, his car parked in the driveway.

"Sorry to interrupt so late at night, but we've gotten a call talking about suspicious activity pertaining to your house. They reported seeing some 'large, alien creature' enter your home." The policeman said it flatly, using air quotes with his fingers. The man seemed tired and worn out, and he rested his hands on his belt.

"I haven't seen anything off," Y/N smiled. She lied.

"Would you mind if I took a look around? Just in case." The police officer asked, raising an eyebrow. Y/N gulped down the anxiety that started to form in her mind.

"Sure, go ahead." She stepped out of the way, letting the man take a brief look around the house. The policeman glanced around for anything suspicious before walking back into the hallway. Y/N glanced at the stairs that lead to the attic, hoping that he wouldn't check there.

The police officer checked around the house, not taking much care to look after such a long night. He shrugged, standing in front of Y/N again.

"It all seems fine to me." The officer said, opening the front door, "Apologies for wasting your ti- THUNK" The man was cut off from a loud sound upstairs. Y/N's heart dropped, and she didn't dare look in the direction of the noise.

The officer's head tilted up to the ceiling.

"Do you have an upstairs?" He questioned, glancing at Y/N.

"It's just an attic!" Y/N chuckled nervously, leaning against the door with the temptation to shut it in the officer's face.

"Would you mind if I did a quick check-up there?" He asked, pulling a flashlight from his belt.

"No, no, go ahead," Y/N said.

Damnit.

The officer went up the stairs that creaked under his feet. The flashlight clicked on, and he carefully opened the door, beaming the light inside. He darted the light around the room before letting out a shout.

Noki came running out with another mouse in her mouth. The officer sighed, turning off the flashlight and closing the door.

"Noki!" Y/N said, reaching out to try and take the mouse from her. Noki dodged Y/N's grip and ran into the hallway.

"I wish people would stop calling in for such nonsense reasons." The officer mumbled as he walked back to the front door, shutting it behind himself. Y/N waited until she heard the sound of his car starting. Her head turned back to the attic.

She rushed up the stairs and opened the door, flipping on the lights.

"Jack?" She said it in almost a whisper. Jack took the box off of his head, coming out of his hiding spot. Y/N sighed in relief. She had no idea what the officer would have done if he had found Jack.

"Good, you're safe," Y/N smiled. Jack pulled his tub of cheese balls out of hiding and held them above his head.

"Safe," he said in return, shaking the container.

Y/N chuckled, leaning against the door frame.

"You can come back downstairs now," she said, turning and stepping back down the stairs. Jack watched her leave, slightly confused as to why she would want to leave the safety of the attic, but he eventually caved and came down the stairs.

The lights were dimmer than previous days, and the lack of light from outside helped. Jack set his cheese balls on the kitchen counter, but he hesitated on leaving them there. His eyes went to the cat before he took the cheese balls and set them on top of the fridge.

"Not for you," Jack muttered, pointing to Noki, who meowed in return. Y/N went back to the living room and flopped onto the couch, continuing to watch her show. Jack heard the murmur of talking, and his head turned in her direction.

Interest went into his mind as he watched the people on the screen. They seemed to be arguing at first, but it took an abrupt turn into a passionate kiss. Jack looked back at Y/N, baffled as to why she would have ever wanted to watch such a thing.

"What is this?" he asked, pointing to the people on the screen. Y/N glanced at Jack.

"It's a movie, drama, and romance, I think." Y/N answered, leaning against the arm of the couch. Jack tilted his head, trying to focus on what they were saying.

At first, he didn't care because it seemed uninteresting, but the more he watched, the more he wanted to stay there and finish the movie.

After a few minutes, he sat on the couch next to Y/N. The movie had its highs and lows. The main characters started as lovers who turned into enemies, then back to lovers again. Jack couldn't help but think the movie was thrilling. The lovers would kiss, look at each other with lovey-dovey gazes, and hold hands, and in the end they ended up together.

The credits started to roll on the screen, and Jack clasped his hands together in joy. He turned to get Y/N's attention, wanting to chat about the movie, only to see her asleep. Her head lay against the back of the couch, looking rather uncomfortable.

Jack's head tilted to the side, and he looked back at the TV, seeing the pictures and credits. Jack turned back to Y/N and stood up. He found a pillow and blanket on one of the chairs. Picking the items up, he fluffed out the blanket, draping it over her. He set the pillow on one end of the couch.

With gentle hands, he held Y/N's head, supporting her neck and laying her on the pillow. He moved some of the hair from her face and stepped back. That was something he had never done before, and it was something he thought he would never get to do.

Jack took the remote from Y/N's hand and turned to stare back at the TV. He took a seat on the floor in front of the TV, letting Y/N have all the couch. Jack tested a few of the buttons on the remote, choosing a new movie he'd never seen before.

He felt something in his head click.
