Drip

As I walked into the dirty, old school, 'Lifeless. Empty. Dead,' I thought as I witnessed the creaking and dripping sounds only able to be produced by the pipes in the walls. I slowly, hesitantly, wandered down the halls of my abandoned high school. It had only been empty for a few months. Since the attack.

Well my name is Evan Cliff, raised in Montana. Just graduated from this dump. Drip. Drip. Drip. This sound is what keeps me from breaking. The sound calms me, keeps my heart at a steady beat. If I didn't come here everyday after the attack I'd go insane. When I reached the end of the hallway, the dripping sounds dimmed. I looked left and right, down the cold, empty halls. Suddenly I saw a man charging at me with a knife, ready to kill. I sprinted until I couldn't breathe. When my heartbeat slowed, and I heard the dripping again, I knew it was just a memory. My mind has done this many times before. Many times.

As I sat quietly in the bathroom, listening to the water, I decided to go walk around for a little bit. When I stepped outside of the bathroom, the dripping stopped and the glass-breaking screams started. I covered my ears in attempt to block them out. Nothing works. Nothing ever does. I just slid down the wall clutching my head with my big hands, until the screams halted. Drip. Drip. Drip. It started again.

I walked silently into the old, dusty library. Deciding against sitting, I stood and browsed through all the book shelves. I knew I'd walked too far when I saw students rushing down the halls in attempt to escape them. The ones who caused my dead family and friends. From all I can remember, they were called Remlaws. They would grasp you and tear out your tongue so you couldn't scream. It all seemed so real, as I walked toward a Remlaw. That was until I tried touching it. It just vanished and the dripping started again as I slowly, cautiously, stumbled back towards the library. Drip. Drip. Drip.

I sat down slowly against the lockers lining the halls. They were tall, narrow, and grey. I remember having troubles opening mine in Freshman year. But now that I was a graduate, I was a pro. The dripping kept a steady pace, keeping my heart rate down. I was quiet, but all I wanted to do was scream. Scream until I ripped out my vocal cords, until I felt like I was flying from being light headed. But I refused to make a sound. Only in fear of the Remlaws. Them. The ones who ruined my life. Killing all the people I care about. Wrecking my mind.

My life revolved around this school. I was here only in the mindset of keeping myself from doing the action I promised my mom I would stop. Cutting. I was the killer when I held the blade. I suffered from self-harm since Eighth Grade. I was 14 years old when I started. Only because I believed in mysterious killers that lurked in the night and got teased for it. I dreamt of Remlaws for as long as I can remember. But I knew they were real. No one believed me. But look what happened. The tall, slim, black shadows tortured all of us until we were unrepairable. Drip. Drip. Drip. 'Good, it's still there' I thought as I heard a drip that sounded from quite a distance away.

I looked down the hallway that led to the gym. As I slowly focused on placing one foot in front of the other to keep myself walking, I glanced around taking in the very familiar surroundings. 'They are here. They have come back for me' I thought as I saw the bloody finger trails left on the previously white wall of the hallway. When I neared the gym doors, I took this time to collect my thoughts. My head felt light, the room was spinning. Everything was out of place. And at that moment I realized that the dripping had subsided. I was going insane because that's what the Remlaw's venom does to you when they scratch you. I was just in shock because the spinning had stopped and I was inside the gym near the wall listening to the drips. Drip. Drip. Drip.

Soon after I had wandered into the cold, dark, empty gym, I was hearing whispers coming from outside the door. They weren't produced by a human being, but almost like some sort of creature. It sounded like them. They were here. I knew it. The dripping is still here. I listened to the muffled sound of the drips behind the walls. Drip. Drip. Drip. Still there. The door creaked open slightly. CREEK. The sound barreled through the gym. Soon the tall, lanky shadows were entering the gym. About 5 of them stalked over to me, hovering over my body that was balled up in the corner. They knew I was here, they knew I came here everyday. The Remlaws had been looking for me. They wanted everyone dead. Especially me. "What do you want from me?" I shouted.

" It's your time," one screeched.

As they slowly caved in on me, I tried to inch away. But one caught my leg, ripped right through the fabric and tore my skin. It was bleeding. They were going to kill me. Right now. When I was back in the corner, the alpha grabbed my tongue, ready to yank it out. I squeezed my eyes shut in pain as they started to roughly pull. As my tongue fell to the floor, I attempted to scream in pain, but no noise was sounded. They kept going, ripping off one finger at a time. Followed by my toes, arms and legs. After, they got right to the chase ripping my throat out and quickly followed by my heart. Blood oozing from my wounds. Drip. Drip.......Drip. It stopped. The dripping's gone.
