Chapter 19
Cruz
This is happening right... or am I dreaming? Autumn. Autumn was looking for me. My heart feels like its beating in my mouth as I drive to her house. I Slowly start counting the numbers in my head... like a countdown till I see her face. 10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1
And there she is, sitting on the front porch of her house. She gets up and waves. A small smile spreads across my face. I open the door and get out. She runs towards me and looks me straight in the eyes. "It's been a while CShip1," she says softly. She's never been a loudspeaker... but then again, I barely know her. I let out a laugh. "Yeah, yeah. Are we on our way?" She looks down but I see her hidden smile. "Yeah, we should."
I walk to my side and hop in. I watch her close my door and look out of the window. I decide to put on the radio. Close to Me by Ellie Goulding fills the silence in the car. Bright blues and greens flood my surroundings. I pull the windows down and feel the cold breeze flow over my body. I look at Autumn who has her hair flying everywhere and say, "So... why Tilbury?" She looks up at me with her big blue eyes. "Well, I really miss the ocean." An expression appears on her face that I cannot read, and she looks away.
It takes us two hours to get to the ocean, but we are finally here. Autumn pokes my arm with a long smile spreading on her face. "Thank you, Cruz. I needed this..." she trails off, but I can see how happy she is. I park in the small parking bay behind the beach and hop out. I walk over to her side and open the door. She smiles at me and slowly moves out of the car. The salty breeze hits my face, and my body relaxes. The crashing waves fill my ears and for a split second I close my eyes and let it take hold of me.
