Benny's POV
It had been almost five weeks since the bonfire at Damon's house.
That night had been easy. A fire going, guitars getting passed around, and everybody laughing without staring at their phones every ten seconds.
It was the kind of night you didn't think much about while you were living it. Then it ended, life got loud again, and you realized how much you missed it.
Madison and I were still talking. Texting, calling, sending each other dumb shit at hours when neither of us should've been awake.
Some nights, I'd be stretched out on the studio couch with my guitar across my lap, tuning the same string over and over while I listened to her laugh through the speaker.
We could start with something completely unserious and end up talking about family, music, or some weird thought one of us couldn't let go of. We never had to force it. Talking to her was the easiest part.
Actually seeing her was a different story.
I'd only seen her twice since the bonfire, and one of those barely counted.
Our schedules were brutal, and every time we found an open night, one of us ended up rehearsing, flying somewhere, or getting dragged into something work-related.
Meanwhile, the internet had already planned our entire future.
I woke up one morning to people asking when Madison and I were having babies.
Other fans wanted to know when our duet was dropping.
Somebody had already made a playlist for a song that didn't exist.
It was the same shit people used to do with me and Ariana.
I couldn't even be mad.
Some of the theories were funny as hell, especially when half the people involved hadn't been in the same room long enough for any of it to make sense.
Right after the bonfire, we flew to Vegas for the iHeartRadio Music Festival.
We showed up on the last day and played a surprise set.
