Benny's POV
The Sprinter felt cut off from the rest of the city. Black leather covered the seats, and soft purple lights ran across the ceiling.
Once the doors shut, Los Angeles disappeared behind the tinted windows.
No traffic. No cameras.
Just us and the drive to Avalon.
I sat back in one of the captain's chairs with one leg stretched out and the other bent.
I wore an all-black double-breasted suit with satin lapels, an open collar, and polished pointed boots. My hair was down tonight, loose waves falling across my forehead and temples.
I looked put together.
I felt like death.
I'd woken up hungover as fuck at Madison's house that morning with my face buried in her pillow, one arm hanging off the bed, and no memory of how I'd gotten upstairs.
My mouth tasted like carpet, and my head felt like Damon had been using it as a snare.
Madison was already awake beside me, watching me suffer with the most annoying smile on her face.
Apparently, I'd been entertaining as hell.
She told me everything.
The drunk texts. The Pokémon comparison. Me announcing, honey, I'm home, from the back of the SUV. Then came the part where I'd called her girlfriend material in front of Damon and Bowie.
Yeah.
That started a conversation.
A real one.
No jokes. No hiding behind the casual bullshit I'd been feeding everyone, including myself.
We talked about us. I told her why I'd been holding back, and she admitted Ariana getting brought up every five minutes had been messing with her head.
Madison wanted more. She just hadn't wanted to push me before I was ready.
Somewhere between a bottle of water, two Tylenol, and her sitting cross-legged beside me in bed, I finally admitted I wanted more too.
So, yeah.
Madison Beer was my girlfriend.
And I was hers.
Damon and Bowie were never letting me live that shit down.
