A few weeks had passed by and Meredith was going insane in the hospital bed

"I wanna go home!" She complained

"I know.." Derek sighed

"I hate lying here! I'm done with it! I wanna go home!" Meredith whimpered and threw her uninjured arm in the air

"I know Mer.. Just.. Please." HHe begged her

"I don't wanna stay here!" She started sobbing

Derek wrapped her in his arms as pain radiated through her body with each sob

"Mer, take it easy, you're hurting yourself." He muttered as he knew her back was still hurting like crazy

"Grey?" Callie walked inside

Meredith immediately tried to look away, not wanting her co-worker to see her cry like this

"Yes?" Derek looked up, drying Meredith's tears

"We'll remove the screws, we'll put you back into a cast and we'll remove the external fixator on your leg but we'll have to place a regular cast

"It can finally come off?" Meredith's eyes widened. It had been awful and her daughter was so scared of it

"It can come off. If you want I can take you for surgery right away." Callie smiled softly

"Yes!" Meredith nodded, but wincing as her back was still painful

"What about her spine?" Derek asked

"I'm sorry, that will take quite a while.." Callie sighed. "I'll ask some nurses to start prep you."

"Thanks Callie." Derek said and kissed Meredith's forehead

"Can I go home?" Meredith quickly asked

"No Grey, you'll need to stay here a while longer. You'll need extensive rehab and your spine.. You know it as well."

"Can I please go home, Callie?" Meredith begged her with tears in her eyes

"I can't let you go, Meredith. I can't." She shook her head which caused Meredith to be upset. "I'll see you in the OR."

"I hate this, Derek! I wanna go home!" She whimpered in discomfort

"Shh, I'll go get Grace, we'll have lunch and we'll come see you as soon as you're out of surgery." Derek explained

"Kay.." Meredith muttered and took a deep breath

Derek had been cuddling with Grace as they waited for Meredith to wake up. Their daughter had been touching the hard cast wrapped around her mom's leg earlier

"Mama?" Grace muttered sleepily

"Monkey.." Meredith moaned, she was in a lot of discomfort

"Mama!" Grace jumped up

"Hey, how are you feeling?" Derek stood up with Grace in his arms, making sure she wouldn't hurt her mom

"My leg feels as if a truck drove over it." She weakly whimpered

Derek quickly pressed the nurse button so his wife would get some meds to keep her comfortable

"Grey?" Callie walks in

"She's in pain, can you give her some meds?" Derek asked

"It's normal, it will get better but I will give her something." She nodded

Two days had passed by where Meredith was slowly allowed to learn how to move her hand again

She was currently playing a bit with Grace but felt the pain in her back getting worse but she was too stubborn to push the nurse button since Derek was gone

"Hey-" She heard her dad's voice

"Hey.." Meredith looked at her father, really hoping her mom wasn't here

"How are you feeling?" He stepped inside, placing a kiss on her head and hugging Grace

"Fine." Meredith nodded

"Mama!" Grace hugged her mom

"Gracie!" Meredith chuckled, hugging her daughter back

"When are you going home?" Richard asked, grabbing an ipad

"Dunno." Meredith sighed. "I hope soon."

"Will Derek take a leave of absence?" Richard asked, reading through her files for the first time since the accident

"He said he would but I don't want him to, I'll be fine on my own." She shrugged

"Meredith, with all respect I don't think you'll be walking around the house soon."

"Dad, I know that!" Meredith snapped. "S-Sorry!"

"Its a lot, I understand." Richard nodded. "Mer- I-" He started

"What is it?" Meredith frowned

"It feels like I'm lying to your mom.." He carefully started

"No dad, I don't wanna see her.." Meredith muttered sadly

"But she's your mom.." Richard sighed

"She's never been very mothering.." Meredith muttered. "Dad.. I think I wanna take a nap with Grace."

"I can stay, it's okay. Do you wanna lay down?" He asked

"It's fine, I can do it." She sighed and lowered the headrest a little

"Mama!" Grace laid down, clearly pretty tired

"Yes monkey, let's take a nap together." Meredith muttered. She just didn't wanna talk and face the reality of laying here non stop

"Kay." Grace laid down in her mom's arms, Meredith held her tight even though the railing of the bed were up and would keep them both safe
