Derek woke up in his own bed. He smiled as Meredith was asleep on her back but his smile faded quickly as he thought about how she'd never voluntarily sleep on her back

"Hmm.." Meredith winced as she wanted to move unconsciously, her eyes opening quickly as she wanted to cry it out

"Easy, are you okay? What can I do?" Derek started worrying

"Fine. Just gotta lay still." Meredith quickly said, not wanting him to worry

"Are you warm? I can add an extra blanket for you."

"I'm fine, Derek. This happens often, okay?" She said, knowing he had missed out most of it the past months

"Just tell me if you're ready to get up, we can have some breakfast and later today we can go for a walk." He rubbed her hand softly

"Good." Meredith took a deep breath before slightly moving the headrest up with the electric controller and weakly reaching out to grab the pills she had put ready the night before, swallowing them by using her water bottle that couldn't leak, which was super useful

"Mama?" Grace walked inside

"Hi my little bean." Meredith said, putting up a smile

"I scawed.." Grace whimpered, sniffling a bit

"Oh come here, princess. You can lay down with us." Meredith said softly, moving the blankets the best she could, immediately getting some help from Derek. "Thanks."

"Don't worry." Derek smiled softly and lifted his daughter into the bed, watching how the little girl cuddled into her mom's body. "Careful-"

"It's okay, Derek." Meredith said, enjoying to cuddle with her daughter while struggling with the upcoming pain, hoping the extra meds will kick in soon

"I will start on breakfast, I'll come get you when it's ready." Derek got up, tucking both of his girls in and disappearing into the kitchen where he made them some pancakes

After a while he heard Grace giggling as she ran into the kitchen

"Daddy!! I hungwy!"

"Where's your mommy, monkey? Breakfast is almost ready." He told her

"I'm here-" Meredith slowly walked inside, leaning onto her cane

Derek helped her taking a seat and the three of them had breakfast until Meredith had PT. Her physical therapist came to their house to make it easier for them

"I gotta get ready for the day." Meredith said, standing up

Derek stopped her as she wanted to carry her plate to the counter

"I got it, I'll clean up the kitchen. Maybe Gracie can go play a bit." Derek suggested

"Yes mama!" Grace giggled and ran off

"Thank you." Meredith said and started slowly walking out of the room

Her legs felt so heavy, it hurted her back a lot which caused tears to start welling up

"Hey, are you okay?" Derek walked into their room

"Sure." She lied and took a seat on the bed

"Do you need any help?" He offered

"No, I'm fine." Meredith quickly said, not looking at him

"Will you please yell if I can do anything for you?" Derek asked, placing his hand on her shoulder

"Hmmm-" She winced in response

"Why didn't you tell me?" Derek frowned. "What can I do?"

"Nothing. Just give me some meds." Meredith avoided looking at him, eventually swallowing her meds and waiting for her physical therapist to arrive

After a while the doorbell rang so Derek went to open the door for him

..

An hour later Meredith was done. Derek wasn't allowed to stay with her as it was rough and hard on Meredith. He finally got called inside when they had finished, he saw his wife laying flat on the bed, absolutely exhausted

"Hey, how did it go?" He asked

"Fine, just need a nap." Meredith quickly said

"Take care, Meredith. I'll see you in a few days." He said and left

"Where's Grace?" Meredith asked

"She's asleep.." He told her

"Good." Meredith yawned and allowed herself to fall asleep, drifting off quickly as she had already swallowed her meds

"All will be okay." Derek muttered

In desperate need for ideas or i'll start wrapping it up
