009| CRASH LANDING

TENSION hung heavy in the aeroplane as Frank piloted them away. Billie sat close to her brother Tom, with Benny and his brother nearby. Across from her sat Santiago's informant and her brother, their eyes occasionally meeting Billie's.
She could sense the woman's nerves as she clutched her brother's hand throughout the flight. There was a flicker of curiosity in her gaze each time she glanced at Billie.
Billie wondered what Santiago had revealed to her about their group, about her.
As they approached the designated location, she adjusted her headset, listening intently to the instructions being relayed by Santiago. They were preparing to release the woman and her brother.
Tom rose from his seat as the aircraft touched down, swiftly removing his headset before taking the lead to escort the woman and the man outside. The woman cast a final glance at Billie before following Tom. Santiago followed suit, carrying their bags, a stack of papers, and two passports.
After about five minutes, they returned without the informant and her brother.
"She's lying," Tom declared as he settled back into his seat, adjusting his headset just as Santiago did across from Billie.
"No, she's not," Santiago countered.
"There are consequences to this shit," Tom persisted, his gaze meeting Santiago's.
"You know what we should have done?" Tom posed the question, causing Billie to snap her head towards him, trying to discern his intentions.
"That's one you wouldn't come back from," Will interjected before Tom hastily removed his headset once more and made his way to the cockpit.
Santiago's gaze shifted to Billie before he reclined into a resting position, his eyes scanning the darkness outside.
"The weight drags at higher altitudes," she heard Frank's voice through her headset. "I'd like to stay under 5,000 feet till we hit the Andes. Ocean in four hours."
"Roger that," Tom who was now on the other side said. "Nice work."
Billie finally managed to close her eyes, drifting in and out of consciousness as the voices of her brother and Frank echoed in her ears.
"I'm gonna try between these two bigger peaks," Frank's voice sounded through her headset. Her eyes flickered open intermittently, scanning the snowy landscape outside. The bright sun made her squint as it reflected off the pristine snow. "Find this valley I saw on the map."
"Roger."
"Just one last push through the Andes."
The boys around her were all asleep, and she took a quick glance at them.
