SEATED around a sleek office table, the team listened as Margaret Vasquez, a finance officer who had worked with Santiago before, flipped through a stack of documents.

She adjusted her glasses as she spoke. "Minus the expenses, and our administrative fee, that leaves $5,334,120... cut six ways."

"Which gives you six shares of $889,020," she continued, sliding the papers forward for signatures.

Billie barely glanced at the numbers. The money meant nothing compared to what she had lost. What they had lost.

Margaret tapped the last document. "Oh, and I need all of your signatures on the sixth contract here. It'll deposit the deceased's share into the Redfly Family Trust."

"Here you are," she said, setting the stack of documents on the table. Billie's was on top so Will picked it up first, passing it to her. She sat between him and Benny, fingers tightening around the paper.

Next, he handed Santiago who sat across him his document, then his own, followed by Frank's, and finally Benny's.

A heavy silence filled the room. Billie pretended to read, flipping the page, while Will scanned his, though his gaze briefly met Santiago's. Santiago hadn't touched his own.

Frank's eyes moved between them, waiting.

Billie didn't want the money. She needed it, but she didn't want it. Yet she stayed silent, not wanting to put the others in a position where they'd feel obligated to donate their shares for Tom's family like Will intended. She kept her eyes down, avoiding Santiago's and Frank's stares.

The sharp rip of paper broke the silence. She looked up just in time to see Will tearing his document in half.

"I'd like you to include my share in the family trust," he said, grabbing Tom's contract and signing it instead. Then, without a word, he slid it toward Billie, tapping the pen beside it before standing.

Billie kept her gaze fixed on her own document. She could feel her eyes sting, but she refused to look up. Will didn't push. He just gave her shoulder a light pat, did the same to Benny, then walked out of the room.

Benny waited for Billie to react, but when she didn't, he silently pulled Tom's contract toward him and signed it. "Me too," he said, sliding the document across to Frank. "Thank you," he muttered before standing and walking out.

Billie finally looked up, meeting Frank's gaze. He held it for a moment before crumpling his own document in his fist and signing Tom's document instead, then followed the others out, leaving only Santiago, Billie, and Margaret.
