Chapter 57

ALICENT HIGHTOWER

The whole castle was gleaming as the day of the marriage of the realm's only and most beloved Princess was in full swing, the capital of the continent bustling with activity as lords, small and large, gathered from all parts of the continent to celebrate the union of two great Houses.

And most of it was because of her. She had toiled for weeks to make it all happen, and all the usual responsibilities of a Queen had fallen on her as the Princess couldn't be burdened with making arrangements for her own wedding.

It was tiresome and back-breaking work, though she would do it all over again for the sight in front of her as Rhaenyra sat in front of a massive Myrish mirror clad in her wedding dress.

Made out of the finest red silk, embroidered with rubies and gold thread, the three-headed dragon adorned the front, made with small delicate blood-red rubies that glittered in the light.

Her hair was braided elaborately in a small bun, and she wore a crown rather than a traditional tiara. The dress had a cut in the middle, showing her glistening skin, as her eyes looked at her reflection somewhat nervously.

"The rumors don't do your beauty justice, Princess," a very familiar voice that she hadn't heard in a long time cut in from the side as the wife of the Sea lord gushed over Rhaenyra, making the Princess smile.

Blair had arrived a few days ago, along with an entourage from Braavos, to attend the wedding, something which had been a surprise to her.

She was dressed in the traditional Braavosi color of purple, which, for some reason, matched Rhaenyra's eyes quite aesthetically.

"This isn't the first time you have seen her, Blair," she added as she stepped forward.

"I know, but I have never seen her dressed for marriage. This is something else," she gasped out as Alicent smiled, it was just like her to integrate herself into a social setting so quickly. Outside, the woman was a symbol of regality and nobility, yet here, with her acquaintances, she was a breath of fresh air.

"You do look lovely, Rhaenyra," she said as well, who smiled at her words.

"Thank you, though you look rather lovely as well," she remarked, complimenting her dress which had been designed by Antonie, who had arrived a week ago on Aenys's orders. Her designer from Braavos had come all the way just for her at Aenys's command, and so Alicent found herself dressed in a green gown with a slit in the middle, made of green and red silk, embroidered with emeralds and silvery thread.

The gown seemed heavy at the initial look but was made to be quite comfortable at Aenys's command to ease her, though there was always a small sense of discomfort with such elaborate clothes.

A small knock on the door interrupted their talk as she asked.

"Who is it?" and the answer came quickly.

"It is me, Aenys," she said, and she saw Rhaenyra smile as she was quick to answer.

"Come in," and the door swung open delicately as her husband entered the room, clad in a red and black gown, much similar to the one he had worn on her own wedding day. He entered the room, a smile on his face as he gave Blair a small bow.

"It is good to see you feeling at home, my lady. I hope everything has been fine," said the woman, smiling.

"Ohh, it has been perfect. I was missing your lady wife quite a bit," Blair replied, bubbling with excitement, as Aenys stepped forward. She didn't miss how his hands were tied back, concealing something from them.
