Chapter Ten
I stepped off the bus, slowly taking a breath. "I'll get through this. I'll just tell the truth. I can do this." I whispered to myself, walking up to the door. I ease open the door, calling out quietly.
"I'm home..." I looked around cautiously. Suddenly out of nowhere, I heard pounding footsteps. I turned to the steps. My dad was running down the stairs, a furious light in his eyes I could see even from here. My heart dropped and I shivered.
"ROSALENA! WHAT IS THIS SHIT?!" He yelled and I winced. How did he know? He came down and smacked me, the blow stinging and my neck snapped to the side.
"W-wha-" I started, when he slapped me again.
"Don't play innocent with me, young lady! What was the one condition I had when I said you could go to school?!" He demanded.
"T-to get as good o-or b-better grades as at h-home..." I managed to stutter out.
"That's right! And what did you get on your last math quiz?!" He yelled.
"H-how did you know...?" He slapped my arm.
"I ASKED YOU A QUESTION!" He practically screamed.
"A D..." I mumbled slowly.
"What? I can't hear your stupid little voice?" He said, putting a hand up to his ear.
"I said I got a D, okay? Happy?" I shot back, immediately regretting my decision. I watched his anger build up and mentally prepared myself for the explosion. But no matter how much prep time I gave myself, I wasn't ready for what came afterwards. He came at me like an animal, hitting any surfaces he could, leaving red marks everywhere, my whole body felt like it was being attacked by thousands of bees. Tears were streaming from my eyes from the pain. I was hardly surprised when black spots began to dance in my vision as the torrent continued, and slowly the black spots overtook me. Soon, I could no longer feel the blows and I fell, closing my eyes.
