MINJEONG

I wake up early the next day. God, it's only Tuesday.

When I go downstairs to leave for school, Yeji is there, buttoning up a white shirt.

"Oh hey, good morning," she says, smiling brightly after noticing my presence.

"Good morning," I reply, returning the gesture, "Are you hungry? Do you want to make anything?" I ask, sitting on the last step of the stairs to put my shoes on.

"Actually, I made some French toast for everyone, feel free to grab some, it's on the stove." She says, running her fingers through her hair.

"Oh right, Minjeong, do you perhaps think that we could get more copies of the house keys?" She asks.

I stand up, slinging my backpack over my shoulder. "Um, sure. I gave my extra keys to Yizhuo."

"What about me?" Yizhuo asks, walking down the stairs while she adjusts her tie to complete the school's strict uniform rules.

"Ah, we're just getting more copies of the house keys," Yeji answers.

"Sure. Take mine." Yizhuo digs in her pockets and throws her key across the room. Yeji easily catches it.

"Alright, I'm heading out now. Drive safe!" Yeji puts on her coat and leaves.

"She made French toast," I tell Yizhuo, smirking.

"And that's why I love them," Yizhuo says, walking into the kitchen.

-

After third period, we have a small break. I go into Yizhuo's homeroom class to look for her, as usual.

Except this time, she's not here.

"She's not here today," her teacher says when she notices me.

"What? She didn't come in?" I ask. It made absolutely no sense, she drove me to school. Plus, she had her uniform on and everything.

She shakes her head.

"Alright, thank you, Mrs. Lee," I say and leave, confused and annoyed, it's not a short walk from the school back to my house.

I take my phone to call Yizhuo, but as I expected, she didn't answer and went straight to voicemail.

I continue the school day, not focusing on any teachers explanation through their lectures as all that goes through my mind was why Yizhuo wasn't at school today.

-

After a 30 minute walk, I get into the house and instantly pour myself a glass of water, chugging it down in a few seconds.

I put the glass into the sink then I notice Yizhuo walking into the kitchen.

"Hi," she says.

"Thanks for leaving me." I give her a look and she sighs.

"I'm sorry, they needed me."

I raise my eyebrow, "The girls?"

She nods.

"What for?" I ask.

She shrugs as I wait for an answer, but she gives me none.

"Yizhuo, what's going on?" I ask again. A feeling in has been off since Jimin told me that they move around a lot, and I find it odd that they're barely even home.

I mean, I don't even have a clue what they do, but how is it possible they could all be away for such long periods of time?

"Is something wrong?" She runs her slender fingers through her hair, biting her lower lip out of habit.

"Yeah, you're all acting so weird. I don't know if this is normal, but it isn't to me," I say.

"Well, they're really busy. Our families are really close, so when something with Jimin's dad goes wrong for example, it'd involves us all. That's it, I promise, Minjeong-ah." She comes towards me and takes my hands.

"Promise?" I ask to reassure myself.

"Promise." She nods.

"Alright, fine."
