New Roomie

Sonic woke up one day to some sounds. It was kind of dim in his chamber. Getting up out of his hammock as he groaned and rubbed between his eyes. Trying to wake up and make sure he knows where he is going. He walked for a bit using his night vision to finally get to the room making the ratchet. There was an experiment active in one of the tubes. His eyes widened in astonishment. Walking over to the tube as he smiled. "Wow... who knew I would be able to have a friend so soon?! Well, it's been almost a year, but it is so worth it!" Sonic said with a large smile on his face. He would use his legs to be able to jump and see the screen. Wanting to unlock his new fellow friend out of its containment. Sonic pressed a few buttons, his joyful attitude getting the better of him. When he did that... he accidentally let the mask off the new found creature before draining the chemicals. The new experiment started to choke on what it was surrounded by.

Sonic panicked as the alarm sounded off due to the creature's heart rate skyrocketing. That's when Nathan rushed into the lab and saw Sonic standing there fidgeting. The scientist was able to fix up what was wrong quickly before any more harm was done. Lifting the casing off the pod, Nathan held onto the new experiment while glaring at Sonic. It wasn't all his fault... right? It was all just a big misunderstanding. He didn't mean to hurt the poor fellow. "N-Nathan... I-I didn't mean to hurt him, I was just..." He was cut off by Nathan's harsh remark. "You can call me sir, I thought you'd be more responsible than this. You almost killed the new active experiment, what were you thinking?!" Sonic felt his heart crumble. Looking at the creature as its chest was heaving. Sonic felt terrible seeing what he had caused. "Nath-... I mean... sir, you know I didn't mean to do what I did. I just got excited to see my new friend." His ears lowered, trying to get Nathan to understand. "Experiment 5-6-Z-3... go to your room, now." When Sonic heard his scientific name being said, all he could do was tear up. The ebony experiment looked straight at him, confused at what was going on.

Sonic just walked off in a shame filled strut back to his chamber. Walking inside, hearing the speaker make ocean sounds. They weren't calm and relaxing anymore, he felt guilty for such actions he had caused. He didn't mean any harm to be done to his poor friend. Hopefully this doesn't affect anything in the future. Hopping back up into his hammock, curling up and lowering his head. Ashamed for such actions he had done. Why didn't he go get Nathan? Why didn't he just wait till morning when everyone was awake and ready? Who knows why he didn't do these things... maybe this was just a valuable lesson to learn.

(Next Day)

Sonic woke up to hearing someone walk into his room. His ear flicked to the sound of the noise. Sitting up in his hammock, as he noticed the new experiment was in here. Who has seemed to already learn how to walk. It kind of amazed him since it took so long for him to learn. Maybe this one is a fast learner. Sonic hopped out of the hammock and got onto some stable ground. Running up to the new guy and smiling. "Hi! How are you doing?" Sonic then paused, figuring this new experiment couldn't talk yet either. "Oh uhm, do you know how to talk yet?" The ebony creature scoffed and crossed his arms. "Yes, I know how to talk. All the teachers did was show me the dictionary and it clicked." Sonic felt insanely dumbfounded now. What was this creature on?! How was he such a fast learner. "Oh, well... okay then. That's good to hear that you're a fast learner." Sonic said, trying to keep the conversation to a minimum now. "What? Were you not?" That's when Sonic sighed and tried his best to not blow up. "Nope, I mean I was the very first. So everything was trial by error. I guess you just got a better deal with everything since everyone was prepared."

"Whatever you want to believe, you aren't superior to me. I know that for a fact. You almost killed me last night, what kind of smart first experiment are you?" God... not to mention this again. Sonic sighed and shook his head. "I was just happy and clouded by my joy to finally have a friend. Is that a bad thing?" The ebony experiment scoffed and rolled his eyes, "Obviously it is a bad thing. Guess when you get too excited you become trigger happy." Sonic growled in annoyance to such a mean comment. "No, I am not trigger happy. I was just..." Getting cut off once more by someone. "You just, what? Want all of their attention to yourself? You just wanted some closure from such a mistake? You... just... what?" Sonic went silent to these remarks, it was actually getting to him now. "May you leave my chamber, please?" Sonic asked politely. "Excuse me?" The other asked. "I said, may you please leave my chamber?" He kept up the sweet tone, until it all backfired on him anyways. "I am experiment 3-9-B-2, you can't talk to me like that. And you most certainly can't boss me around."

This was giving Sonic such a headache. Feeling guilty as well as a big old headache. "Look, this is my space you're coming into. You cannot just barge in here and act like you own the place. I have been on this planet way longer than you. I have more experience than you, as well as more realistic attitudes towards everyone. Yes, I made a mistake... I will not lie or justify myself anymore. But you are not above me, you're not below me. So don't come in here talking to me... like you own me, got it?!" The silence was golden. The room is suffocating in an awkward quiet ambiance. "You better enjoy this place while it lasts. Because I will one up you within a heart beat, and the CEO won't even remember your existence." Experiment 3-9-B-2 walked out. His dark maroon fur and red stripes were vibrant when the outside lights of the room hit them. Closing the large heavy door behind him. Sonic stayed still, staring at the door.

Was what the experiment said true? Would he really be left in the dust all because he is better than him? There is no way, right? There can't be. Sonic just shrugged it off and laid back down in the hammock. Staring at the fake cloud ceiling the scientist had made for him. His body felt heavy. This was the first time he had felt anything other than being, happy, tired, excited, and relaxed. A new feeling he had never came across, something he didn't know how to deal with. The hit of guilt and shame weighed his body down. Then worry hit his mind like a freight train. There was no escape from these thoughts, just the idea of sleep scared him. What if he went to sleep and was already left behind by everyone? Was this something that could honestly happen to him? So many thoughts, yet such little movement and action in it. He felt his heart racing faster than usual. The spiral of panic caused him to fall asleep from exhaustion. Leaving him to his blank mind and shaky body in the hammock.
