Sonic woke up later than he usually does, trying to keep himself calm. Feeling an overwhelming grogginess. He slowly climbed down the plastic palm tree, trying to find some closure in his swirling mind. He then heard the heavy metal door open, a long screech creeping from the metal hinges of the door. It was Jamie, the new scientist he had spoken to yesterday. He sees someone hiding behind the lady in the doorway. A shy little creature poking out from behind Jamie's legs. Sonic leans to the side to see who was trying to keep themselves unseen. "Sonic, I'd like you to meet the newest experiment that just awoke from their sleep. I felt like after hearing what had happened with you and Shadow yesterday that you may be feeling... a little out of sorts. So I wanted this little guy to say hello to you." Jamie said with a soft and comforting tone. Sonic finally got to peak at the little fellow. His eyes widening as he smiled. "His name is Tails, he chose the name himself. Be careful, he is a bit shy." Sonic nodded in response to Jamie's words.
Sonic knelt down a bit and waved, keeping himself calm so he doesn't scare the one chance he has to make himself look the best. Sonic slowly held out his paw with a genuine smile on his face. "Don't worry little guy, I just want to meet you... be your friend." Tails sniffed Sonic's paw, a comforting scent coming off the little hedgehog experiment. Tails smiled and came out from behind Jamie, his tails swishing around as he walked further into the chamber. Sonic felt a small jolt of happiness go through him. Finally, someone to talk to, someone to care for, someone he can protect... a friend. Tails ran off through the large chamber, almost like he wanted to play. The blue hedgehog proceeded to get up and follow after him at the little fellow's pace. Jamie was so excited for Sonic to finally be able to have a friend that would treat him with respect. She closed the heavy metal door as Sonic played with Tails for a while.Overtime, Tails caught onto Sonic's speaking patterns... and within an hour of playing, he could speak long and perfectly structured sentences. The older experiment, teaching the newest, a purpose feeling fulfilled by having fun while teaching his new friend. Eventually they started to get tired and sat down in a small clearing in the man made woods that Sonic has in his chamber. The lights were getting dim, meaning the day outside of the research facility was almost done. Sonic had never felt a day go by so quickly... maybe because he was so used to sitting around and waiting for the day to just end so he could sleep. "So, Sonic... you seem very happy to have met me. Am I the first to greet you here?" Sonic shook his head to Tails' question. "No, there was an experiment before you that had come after me. His name is Shadow, me and him don't quite see... eye to eye, ya know?" He said as he finished it with a nervous chuckle.
Tails nodded his head and thought, "Why do you guys not see eye to eye? You seem to be a very sweet experiment. I haven't met him yet, so I don't quite know what to expect." Sonic listened to Tails' questions and comments. The blue experiment sighed and looked at Tails. "In all fairness buddy, I don't really know why he doesn't like me. When he first showed signs of being active in his tube, I got insanely excited. But obviously my happy nature got me to just push buttons, I was hoping to talk to Shadow... to become his friend. But I had pushed the wrong button out of sheer bliss and he almost... well... drowned. I felt awful, even the head scientist started to hate me after it. I never meant any harm, I never meant to do such a thing to Shadow. But after that, Shadow blames me for a lot. He says I'm a mistake, just a tool. A prototype of the best, which that would be considering himself. He learned faster than me to walk, talk, read... all sorts of things. But I put up with him, he tends to come in here to fight me or push me to some limits."
Tails felt horrible hearing all about this other experiments treatment towards Sonic. Of course hearing the story, it did make more sense now on why Nathan kept saying things about Sonic. When Tails was first brought out of the tube, Nathan told him Sonic was dangerous... a loose canon. But being with him for just three hours, all of those statements were just lies. Tails sighed as he looked at Sonic. "I am so sorry the other treated you like that. Meeting you here, I know better than to take others words for it. I was told by Nathan you were a cruel mess up, that one day you just decided to go haywire and hurt Shadow. But now I know... it's just you protecting yourself and feeling attacked." Sonic teared up slightly, knowing that the one who created him, the one he called his father at one point was saying stuff like that. "But Jamie, she told me all about you... saying that what Nathan said was only half the story. That he only gets the story from Shadow, never deciding to listen to you. And... I truly feel sorry for you, you must feel... so alone." Sonic took a deep breath hearing these words from Tails.
