chapter nine

-𝔀𝓱𝓮𝓷 𝓲'𝓶 𝓻𝓲𝓰𝓱𝓽 𝓫𝓮𝓼𝓲𝓭𝓮 𝔂𝓸𝓾, 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓼𝓮 𝔀𝓸𝓻𝓭𝓼 𝓭𝓸𝓷'𝓽 𝓬𝓸𝓶𝓮 𝓮𝓪𝓼𝔂-

two years.

two years passed ever since felix turned sixteen, and he still has not found his true love. jisung admitted it might be a drawback caused by the absence of the love gem in the fairy forest, and the light fairy was determined to get it back.

what about jeongin? the boy was seventeen already, but he doesn't care. as long as he had his animals by his side, he doesn't care about finding his true love. "if i do have a true love, we'll find each other at the right time," he would say. what about his dream?

on his sixteenth birthday, he had what he would call a nightmare. he dreamt of a predator, slaughtering all of the deers in the forest, which made the boy all the more determined to protect the animals, and he didn't seem to care about his true love anymore.

felix, on the other hand, he kept on dreaming of the human world, and he thought maybe he needed to take back the love gem humans have stolen from the fairy forest seventy years ago, and then he'll find his true love.

so that is exactly what he's going to do.

"lix, are you sure you want to go tomorrow?" seungmin asked as he walks into their shared bedroom, sitting down on one of the two beds as he watched the freckled fairy pack his things. "i need to go tomorrow," the older sighed "it's better to find it fast, and i'll be able to come back home quick. all the worries will be no more."

"but minho and jisung's wedding is so near, i was just thinking it'll be better if you go after.." the water fairy insisted, and felix shakes his head. "it's next week. if i go tomorrow, i'll be able to come back by the sixth day at most. i'll be home in time," he smiled at the younger sitting on the bed.

seungmin sat in silence, watching the older continue to pack. but soon the silence was broken as hyunjin and jeongin enters, "we should sleep already, it's getting late" hyunjin said, putting his bag down.

"where were you guys?"

"helping minho" the animal fairy said, putting his bag down as well. they change into their clean clothes and got ready to go to bed.

a while later seungmin and hyunjin had already fallen asleep, jeongin was also in bed and felix finally finished packing.

he headed to his and jeongin's shared bed and turned off the lamp before slipping under the covers beside the boy and then he let out a sigh.

he tossed and turned, unable to sleep.

"can't sleep?" jeongin mumbled and felix turned to the boy, his eyes still closed as he spoke. the light fairy lets out a sigh again. "it's hard."

"it does sound a little scary"

"hm?"

"going out to the human world. i hear they eat animals." the animal fairy frowns a bit. "how do we know they eat fairies or not?"

"oh.. i don't think they do, jeongin" felix gives the younger a reassuring smile. "don't worry. i'll be fine, i'll come back soon with the gem and the fairy forest will be in peace."

"how would you know where the gem is..?"

"oh. jisung is giving me a special compass. an enchanted one, even, so i can easily locate it, makes things simpler."

"assumption, where do you think it is?"

the light fairy looks up, thinking. then his freckles sparkled.

"seungmin's book says the royalty stole it, so maybe it should be in their castle!"

jeongin's jaw dropped, "that makes it even more dangerous! royalties are privileged, they'll have guards and all that!"

".. how do you know?"

"well, minho has guards. they're just not there when we spend time with him because he trusts us."

"oh right.. but still, i think i'll be alright. i can sneak past the guards."

"how?"

"so since i'm a light fairy, i don't only create light but i also cancel light. no light, no visibility, simple" he smiles.

the animal fairy tilts his head a bit in question and confusion. felix chuckles. "it's alright. i'll handle it. we should sleep now"

"alright.. goodnight."

the next morning, the fairies were gathered by the cave connected to the human world, minho and jisung stood at the front for everyone to see, the light fairy standing in front of them. the love fairy then hands felix the enchanted compass, "be careful on your way." he says, patting the freckled fairy's hand as he takes it.

felix smiles, looking up at jisung, and then at the earth fairy who walks up to him. "travel safely, and come back as soon as possible. we'll all be waiting for your return." minho says and felix bows.

"i promise i won't fail you, my king."

"and please do not interact with humans. do not let them hurt you, do not let them touch you."

felix nods at the stern words from the king, "i promise."

"lix," seungmin, hyunjin and jeongin chimes in, the water fairy holding felix's bag. he hands it to him. "have a safe journey." they smiled at him.

"if you ever need help or get in trouble, just send signals to the other light fairies."

"i will, i promise. but i'm sure i'll be safe." he reassures his friends.

"don't miss a meal, okay?"

"come back quickly!"

"we'll be waiting for you!"

"see you again!"

the fairies wave at him as he walks to the cave. felix looks back at everyone before smiling and waving at them as well, and walking into the cave.

it was dark, but he uses his gem to light it up.

the only way out, the only way in.

he lets out a deep breath as he steps out of the cave, the cold air hitting his skin.

he puts on his cloak, covering his head, ears and gem on his forehead, with the hood.

it looked dead.

the human world looked dead.

it was dark, so monotonous, so unlively.

i will get back soon he thought, before bracing himself and walking further to the human world.

all for the sake of finding his true love.

and the gem, of course.
