Maeve stared at the notification. There it was. Would she get a yes or a no? Maeve needed to see the e-mail. Immediately. She got off the couch and ran upstairs. She shut her bedroom door behind her and sat down on her desk chair. Impatiently, she opened her laptop and logged in. "Come on computer."  Maeve whispered to herself as the laptop loaded. There it was again. The small red dot hovering over the right corner of the E-Mail app. That meant it was a notification. Maeve dragged the cursor over the app and clicked on it. She then clicked on the newly sent e-mail.

Hello, Maeve

I have received your request to research my late daughter's murder. I think it is a wonderful idea that you are researching a child's murder for an assignment as most people wouldn't. Me and my husband, Paul, have taken your request into much consideration as this is still a sensitive topic to us. After much thought, we have decided that you can go ahead. We have also agreed to interviews too. I can give you Paul's details whenever you may need them.

Thanks for choosing my daughter's murder.
Kathrine A Klark

Maeve sat in her seat. The wave of excitement and happiness came over her after reading the e-mail again. Her next few months were going the way she wanted. Maeve jumped around her room in shock and excitement. She felt her smile grow bigger and bigger. As she was jumping around her room, she heard the front door open. Her dad was home.

"Dad! Dad! Guess what!" Maeve yelled as she ran downstairs towards her dad. Her dad looked up the stairs in utter confusion. "What?" He asked. Maeve followed him into the kitchen. "Kathrine said yes!" Maeve burst in excitement. She started jumping up and down, her feet thumping against the wooden floor. Her dad smiled as he placed a Tesco bag on the kitchen's breakfast bar. "Oh darling. That's amazing news." Maeve's dad started unpacking the Tesco bag on the work surface. "I can't wait to tell mum." Maeve had stopped jumping like a maniac and she sat herself down at the breakfast bar. "I know darling. But she won't be home till tomorrow morning." Maeve's dad placed a  can of beans in the cupboard. "Yeah. I'll tell her tomorrow after school. Cause she will probably be sleeping in the morning." "That sounds like a good plan."

Maeve was rudely awaken by her school alarm. Maeve turned herself over in bed and stuck an arm out the duvet to switch off her alarm. "Ugh. Monday!" Maeve hissed quietly. Slowly, Mae got herself out of bed and downstairs.

Maeve was the first person awake. No one else was down in the kitchen. Maeve placed 2 slices of bread in the toaster and pushed them down. She sat herself down at the breakfast bar while she waited. Mae felt her phone buzz on the counter in front of her. She took her phone and looked at the notification. 1 new message from Els. Maeve clicked the notification and it took her straight to the message. Hey Mae! What time are you picking me up? Ella had messaged. Maeve checked the time at the top of her phone. 6:57. Maeve's fingers hovered over the letters on the digital keyboard. 8? Maeve messaged back. She sat her phone back down on the work surface and then her toast popped back up.

Maeve sat in the warmth of her own car as she waited for Ella. Maeve looked up the path towards Ella's front door every so often. Maeve looked up through the passenger window for a 4th time and Ella came out the front door. Ella opened the back passenger door. "So sorry I'm a little late. I needed my gym bag since I'm going to the gym with Sam." Ella said, now climbing into the front passenger seat.

Sam was Ella's boyfriend. He was the popular guy in school. You know, the boy that has half the year crushing on him. Yeah, Ella had made quite a few people hate her because of her relationship with Sam.

"Oh, that's okay. So, I won't be needing to take you home?" Maeve asked, pushing down the handbrake. "Yeah, we will be going straight to the gym. Has Kathrine managed to message you back?" Ella asked. "Yes. And she says I can go ahead." Maeve was much less excited than she was last night. "That's good, cause Mr Williams said he wants us to be starting by Wednesday." Ella said as Maeve pulled out of Ella's street.

Maeve sighed. "Here we are. What do you have first thing?" She asked, unbuckling her seatbelt. "Chemistry. You?" "Free period." Maeve and Ella both got out the car and opened the back passenger doors. Mae collected her bag and shut the door again. Mae and Ella stepped onto the pavement down the side of the car park. As they walked away, Maeve locked the car.

"I'll see you later." Ella said as Maeve and her stopped in the Middle Hall. "See you in Criminology." Ella walked through the door to the Locker Room while Maeve walked down the hallway to the Library.

Maeve quietly opened the door to the 2-story library the school had. "Hello Maeve." Mrs Ken said. She was sat at her desk scanning through books. "Hello Mrs Ken." Maeve walked right past her, towards the tables in the middle of the big room. The Library was Maeve's favourite place. It meant she didn't have to socialise as much as normal. Maeve sat herself down on a table by herself. The table had around 3 other seats around it. From her bag now sat on the floor, Maeve collected her laptop and headphones. She turned on her laptop and while waiting for it to load, she connected her headphones to her phone. It was time. This was the beginning. Maeve was starting to research the case of Madison Klark.
