Scarlet and I hurried back to our dorms after Nytsul's class, eager to change into our battle attire. Our hearts beat with anticipation as we met at the arena building and dove into planning our battle strategies.
"Hey Rune, I couldn't help but notice you always have that metal rod on your arm. What's the story behind it?"
"It was a gift from my father, a weapon actually."
"That thing is a weapon?! How is that going to be useful?"
I take the Rod off my arm and hold it in my hand. I channel my mana into the rod, feeling a surge of power as it transforms into its staff form." What about you Scarlet, what's your weapon?"
"Oh wow damn, I honestly did not see that coming! I have this short sword from my father, But that's not all - it also has some cool tricks up its sleeve." She says as the sword splits itself into two knuckle daggers.
We talked a bit about our strategy while waiting for everyone to arrive. Knowing that we hadn't fought together before or even seen each other's styles, we decided it would be better to fight one-on-one. Scarlet taking on Frank while I took on Adam.
Not long after discussing our tactics, Pearl came over to the arena we were at. "Hey guys, I thought I'd bring you both a snack just in case you were getting hungry. All of us will be right over there cheering you on," she says, pointing to the benches close by with Edger and Jacob.
As we began eating the delicious snacks Pearl had brought, our attention was suddenly captured by the sight of numerous students flooding into the arena.
"Wow Rune, it feels like there are so many more people here than just our class, doesn't it?"
"Yeah, I feel like word definitely got out about the duel because all of the first years are here right now, I can even see some professors up there."
Finally, with a sense of anticipation building Professor Wykle takes to the platform. He called Adam and Frank To the stage we were on to explain the rules to us and the audience.
"Listen up, everyone! These are the rules: once you or your opponent surrenders, you're done. If you fall off the platform and touch the ground, you're out as well. I don't want any of you to get hurt, but accidents can happen, so watch your step. The duel is starting soon, so get ready on your side and be prepared to give it your all."
Scarlet and I move swiftly to our side of the stage, we assume our battle stances and draw our weapons. Scarlet unsheathed her short sword, spinning it in her hand with a flick of her wrist before locking eyes with Frank.
I, on the other hand, remove the rod from its holster with a sense of reverence. As I imbue it with my power, it transforms into a staff that I tightly grasp in my one arm, feeling a surge of energy and determination flow through me, as I meet Adam's gaze.
Adam is wielding a sword and shield, ready to defend himself and strike at a moment's notice while Frank stands tall, armed with two powerful arm batons with metal caps on the end.
As our professor signals for the match to begin, Scarlet and I quickly part ways. I sprint towards Adam, thrusting my staff towards him with a fiery determination. He is forced to block with his shield, causing him to stumble back slightly before quickly regaining his footing.
I desperately tried to swing at him, but he swiftly parried my staff with his shield. In a whirlwind of movement, he counterattacked with his sword, just narrowly missing me and leaving a small scratch on my side.
I quickly jump back, feeling a surge of adrenaline as I regain my footing just in time before Adam charges towards me. With lightning speed, he unleashes a relentless volley of attacks, leaving me little room to defend myself. The sharp pain of his strikes leaves cuts on my arms as I desperately try to block his assault.
