"Lina, we're going to..."

Finnick trailed off when he laid eyes on Carolina.

He was originally sent into her room on the train by Lotus to tell her they would be arriving in the Capitol in less than two hours. However, at the sight of her sitting on the floor with an empty bottle of wine in her hands, his plan changed.

"Does it ever get easier?" Carolina asked quietly.

When she looked up, her red eyes became apparent to Finnick, who sighed at the sight. He slowly moved to sit down beside her on the ground, cautiously taking the bottle out of her hand.

"I hope so," Finnick whispered.

Carolina looked up at the boy, and her entire demeanor changed in seconds. Suddenly, she was giggling.

"You're pretty," she said with a snort.

"You're drunk," Finnick replied.

"You know, I used to have the biggest crush on you," Carolina continued to giggle, trying to stand up. However, her legs were shaking, and she was leaning far to much to the side. "But then you tried to kill me. Do you remember that? When you threw a trident at my head? That was scary."

"Carolina, stop."

"Like, really scary," Carolina continued. "Like, I know I have done some pretty bad things to you in the past, but I've never almost killed you. I've only ever insinuated that you go fuck..."

"Carolina, could you please sit down before you're sick."

Finnick tried to get her to sit back down, but she waved him off.

"You know if I could have a conversation with myself from just six months ago," Carolina started. "Well for starters, I would have asked myself how I survived the Hunger Games, because I don't even know how I managed that one?"

"Carolina," Finnick stood up and grabbed her wrist. She spun around at the action and stumbled into this chest. "We need to get you sobered up."

"And to think that you were my mentor," Carolina shook her head in disbelief. "A boy who has hated me my entire life..."

"I've never hated you," Finnick cut in, causing Carolina to laugh.

"You literally tried to kill me," Carolina giggled. "How did you forget already? I brought it up like not even a minute ago."

"Okay, I wasn't going to kill you," Finnick sighed.

"You threw a trident at my head!"

"Lina, would you just sit down," Finnick said.

His breath hitting her cheek made Carolina realize how close they still were, but she didn't dare to take a step back.

"Six months ago, I hated you," She stared up at Finnick, her eyes drooping dreamily as she did so. Their faces were an inch apart. "But now? I just.. I don't know why I feel this way when I'm around you."

As soon as the words left her mouth, Carolina stumbled back and collapsed onto her bed. She was asleep the moment her head hit the comforter.

Finnick sighed, staring at her for a moment before moving to put a blanket over her sleeping figure.

Carolina woke up an hour later with a pounding headache.

On the nightstand, there was a glass of water and two pills, beside a note that said 'take me, you'll feel better.' She did what the note asked and started to get ready for their arrival at the Capitol.

She had no recollection of Finnick coming into her room.
