The moment word spread about Fletch and Marina's engagement, District 13 started scrambling to make the wedding happen as soon as possible. Coin said it was to boost morale. She thought that it would be good to have a strong display of love for all of Thirteen to see during such a dark time, but everyone knew that it was just an opportunity to film more propos.
Fletch was against it at first. He wanted to keep his relationship private. He thought he and Marina didn't need a big ceremony with hundreds of guests to prove their love for each other. But then Coin suggested that Marina should go to District 12 with Katniss to use one of the wedding dresses the Capitol sent her. Marina's eyes lit up with so much excitement that Fletch agreed to everything on the spot.
Carolina wished she could have given Marina one of the gowns she was sent. She even had the perfect one in mind for Marina. But District 4 was a war zone, whereas District 12 was completely dead.
The morning Marina left for Twelve, the rest of the District 4 victors filtered into Reef's compartment to help set up for the wedding.
"Finnick, I want you to find the children's choir," Reef said. "They're practicing in an hour. Teach them Four's traditional wedding song."
"Why me? Lina's the singer."
"No one wants you to sing," Reef said.
"Yes, please don't," Fletch added.
"But teach it to them. Teach them the melody and the lyrics," Reef continued. "We may be in District 13, but this is still a District 4 wedding."
Finnick nodded and leaned against the wall next to Carolina.
"Okay, I'm on it," he said.
"Lina," Reef said. "You're going to write a song to sing at the wedding."
Carolina's brows furrowed as she nodded slowly.
"I can do that," she said, "but I know nothing about your relationship, so how am I supposed to write something personal?"
"Just write a love song," Fletch sighed. "I know we haven't given you guys much to work with, but we just want to feel like we are getting married at home. Mari always wanted to get married on the beach with her family, so we are trying to get as close to that as possible."
"Fletch and I will work on weaving a net for them to get married under," Reef said. "Annie, you're in charge of decorations. Coin already created a team to deal with that, but I don't really trust them. Oh, and could you also find salt water for the ceremony?"
"Yes, of course," Annie nodded.
"Bring Johanna," Reef added. "You know what everything should look like, and she'll be your backup to make sure it happens."
With that, Reef dismissed the entire group, and they all went their separate ways. Fletch and Reef remained in Reef's compartment to start weaving the net, and Annie headed straight to Johanna's room. Carolina remained by Finnick's side, her mind spinning with possible lyrics to write.
"Would you ever want to do this?" Finnick asked as they walked.
"Do what?" Carolina asked.
"All of this," Finnick said. "Have a wedding. Get married."
"Well, technically, I am already married," Carolina shrugged.
Finnick stopped in his steps and sent Carolina a disgusted look, causing her to laugh.
"Please don't remind me," Finnick groaned. "I'm serious. Would you want to get married?"
"Are you proposing?" Carolina asked. She stopped and turned to Finnick, tilting her head slightly in question. "Because if you are, this is a shit proposal."
