Dally came up to the counter and set down a pack of cigarettes, as Sodapop was putting something in the computer, Dally noticed me in the corner, his cold stare made my heart beat quicken, and I had to bite my lip to keep from smiling, I looked down at the ground, hoping Dally wouldn't notice.

A few moments later I felt a rough grip on my arm that I recognized to be Dally. He was pulling me out of the store, I looked back at Sodapop with a confused look, I was met with a look of concern in Sodapop's eyes. Dally and I were a few feet away from the store when he finally let go of my arm.

I just looked down at the ground, not wanting to let him see my face, I was barely holding back a smile. I continued staring at the ground, waiting for him to say something. He spoke in a cold, hard tone "look at me." I looked up, but trying not to meet his eyes, because I knew if I did, I would smile, possibly start giggling, and then I new he would think I was weird. He then continued "in the eye."

I looked him in the eye, and somehow managed to keep it together. But something in my expression must have given me away. He met my eyes with a cold stare, but I could see through it, his cold, angry eyes, were just a way to hide his pain. He then spoke in his same, cold, angry tone "why do you look at me like that?"

He knew, I never thought he would be this observant. I decided it would be best to just act like I had no idea what he was talking about so I tried my best to use a confused tone and said "what do you mean?" He scoffed and said "you always look, I don't know how to put it, happy, I guess when you see me, you look at me different from the others, you look at me like you've known me for months, instead of 3 days."

I shrugged and said "maybe I just understand you." Now it was his turn to seem confused, he said "what do you mean 'you understand me'." This time I scoffed and said "you may fool others, but not me, there's more to you than hate, and anger, and coldness." He continued to look at me with a cold stare, but he took a few steps closer and said "and how would you know that?" I said "you're not the only one who's observant."

He didn't seem satisfied, he grabbed my arm roughly once again, and his eyes somehow got colder, but I still saw past it, I would always. We kept eye contact for a few moments before he said in an even colder voice "You know nothing about me." I answered "I know you, you've been hurt, betrayed, you steal, you lie, you try to put on a show so that people think you're tough, but I see through it." He seemed to let down his guard.

He stood silent for a moment, and his face seemed to soften a little bit before he asked "how do you know that?" I responded "because I can see it in your eyes, you're not a bad person, just misunderstood." His face softened even more as he said "you're the first person to think so." I replied "I can't imagine what you've gone through, but I've gone through things too."

Suddenly he rapped his arms around my waist and kissed me. After a moment he pulled away and just walked away without saying anything. I stood there in shock, and pure happiness for a few minutes, before walking back to the DX with a smile on my face.

When I entered the DX Sodapop looked at me with a look of concern. He excused himself from a customer he was helping and walked over to me. He then said in a concerned tone "are you okay, he wasn't mean, was he." I continued smiling as I said "no, he was very nice." He raised an eyebrow and said in a suspicious voice "Dally? Nice?" I nodded and said "yes, you should get back to work, the customer is waiting." He then looked back and fourth at me and the customer. But eventually went back over to the counter.

A few hours later Sodapop's shift ended, and we started walking to the Curtis brothers house. On the way Sodapop asked "So, what happened with you and Dally?" I responded "We just talked a little, he was having trouble trusting me, but I think he does now." Sodapop nodded and we continued the walk in silence.

When we entered the house I saw Ponyboy and Johnny, Ponyboy seemed to be working on homework, and Johnny sitting next to him at the table. When Ponyboy saw Sodapop and I enter the room he looked at us and smiled and said "hey Lizzy, hey Sodapop." I smiled back and said "hey Ponyboy." And Sodapop said "hey Ponyboy."

As Darry was making dinner a few Two-bit and Dally entered the house. Dally's eyes were once again cold. He seemed to be scanning the room until his eyes landed on me. I looked down as I continued to feel his cold stare on me.

I soon felt someone sit next to me on the couch. I looked at the space on the couch next to me to see Dally, my heart immediately started beating faster, and my breath sped up. After a few moments he leaned over and whispered in my ear in his cold tone "we need to talk." I nodded and he grabbed my arm roughly again and started pulling me outside.

Once we were a few feet away from the house he said he let go of my arm and I continued to look down at the ground, hoping he wouldn't notice how fast my heart was racing.

He then spoke in his usual cold tone "look at me." He had said this earlier too. I looked up at him and he said "why do you think I'm not a bad person?" I said "you've gone through a lot, you've probably done some bad things, but that doesn't make you a bad person." He said "you don't know what I've done."

I did know, I had read his police record in the book, but I answered "I can guess." He then said "but you still think I'm a good person." I said "I think you could be a good person, if you had someone to help you." He then said "so you want to change me?" I quickly responded "No, I just think you need someone to be there for you." He then said "and you want to be that person." I looked down once again and quietly said "yes."
