Arielle's POV
Grandmama sat calmly in the flowers, waiting for me.
"Arielle? Mrs.Summers came to visit me today. Guess what she said?". Grandmama slowly looked up at me.
"Don't wanna, bye-bye." I walked a little faster.
"Arielle! Come." I came. "Sit." I sat. "Speak." Grandmama commanded.
"I was skipping, an' then I bumped into Uriel. Accidently. Then I accidently broke his nose. And his eye. Accidently. After he PURPOSEFULLY made fun of Kyron. An' me. Oops."
"Darling," Grandmama pushed my wispy brown hair back. "This isn't the behavior expected from a proper eight-year-old lady. We'll have to push you back into the pond."
"Wait, what?" I fidgeted. Grandmama's eyes went black.
"Bad girl. Dumb girl. No good girl." The villagers emerged from the brush. Following Grandmama like she was the queen Queswerschen, a creature that made sweet honey.
"Bad girl. Dumb girl. No good girl." They lifted me into the air and brought me to the edge of the pond.
"Bad girl. Dumb girl. No good girl." And they tossed me in.
The water was cold. As soon as I was fully submerged ice formed above my head. Bubbles streamed from my mouth as I screamed. Then the world went dark. I could have sworn that I saw Mom and Lythian in the tunnel, waving at me and beckoning me to join them.
"We waited for you, darling." Mom said.
"C'mon Ari, can't we play together?" Lythian called. I ran toward them.
As soon as they hugged me I saw their faces crumble and they became icy cold messengers of death.
"Come with us." My Used-to-be-Mom hissed.
"We waited for you." Lythian-Fake hissed.
"No. No. No!" I jolted awake.
Next to me, Grandmama shifted.
"Arielle?" She asked.
"I'm fine, Grandmama." She hugged me and went back to sleep. "Stupid flowers."
Kyron was waiting in the village square, our usual meeting spot, when I jogged up to him.
"Hey." He said, before giving me a quick shoulder hug and a cinnamon bread. Jelga, the housekeeper made too many every morning, and even Ky's four siblings didn't eat that much. The twins were allergic to cinnamon, Sander jr. didn't eat solid food yet, and Lily was three and ate like a bird. Ky looked into my eyes.
"You had the dream again, didn't you?" He asked as we began to walk to school.
"Course I did, Ky." He shrugged.
"Just askin'." He threw his arm around my shoulder and I returned the arm."Whatcha gonna do 'bout these dreams, Ari?"
"Nothing. It's just a side-effect of almost dying." I smiled weakly at Ky.
"Hey dummies!" Erik called. Erik was a new kid in the village and he hadn't met me yet. "What're you doing lovebirds?"
I walked sweetly and demurely up to Erik. "Well, aren't you a peach!" I tapped his nose.
Kyron's POV
What in Marielle was Ari doing? It seemed like she was flirting with the big oaf. He was a fourth year, and Erik was obviously falling for her charms. Maybe something was the matter with her. Ever since Ari had to be mouth to mouthed a year ago, she had been a little off. First nightmares and then she got over emotional for a few months almost everything would set her off, then she stopped worrying so much and actually skipped once or twice. Ari used to believe skipping was the root of all evil. I felt something in my gut... anger? No. I couldn't tell.
I tapped Ari's shoulder. "Ari?"
"Not now, Uriel. Go away." The feeling deepened. She messed up my name! How could she?
The oaf put his arm around her shoulder. Ari laid her hand over his then flipped him over her shoulder. He hit the cobblestone. Hard.
"Don't you ever mess with me again. Or Ky. Or else I'll flip you fight into Falion. Do you hear me?" Arielle's rose-colored lips were set hard and firm.
"F-f-f-fine." He sputtered.
"Good. Now, bye-bye, have a nice day!" She said just as perky as ever.
Arielle slung her arm around my shoulder. I returned the favor.
"You're a great friend, Ari." I smiled at her.
"I know.". And she smiled back.
All right, sorry about the cliffhanger but it was a lot of fun to write. Wow that made me sound diabolical. Oops. Mwhahahaha!
