Those Mornings

Arielle's POV

You know those mornings? The ones were you wake up and you know that everything was going to change? Man, I wish I had had one of those before IT happened. Thanks for the heads up. Not.

I woke up like it was any other day. Actually, no, that's a lie. I woke up like it was my birthday and school was out. Because it was. I was thirteen. And the Efter Hopp Dag festival was in Goodfellow, a few miles from Witzam. Everything was perfect. The key word being 'was'. I pulled on my forest green tunic and my dark brown coarse leggings. I glared at my reflection. Ever since the summer I had little freckles sprinkled across my nose and it was driving me crazy. I only wore dresses on special occasions, but in Kvinna Kommande Ålder Ceremoni, a Female coming of age ceremony I would be forced to wear dresses for the rest of my life. Mine's was tomorrow. If I had known I wouldn't make it, I would have celebrated, but I didn't. Instead I moped and smiled through getting dressed.

"Hey Grandmama. What's cooking?" I tiptoed and looked over her shoulder.

"Nothing much. Take a seat honey bunches."

"Blech!" I pretended to faint. "Cowle? Again? I'll never make it to fourteen."

Grandmama smiled at my dramatic performance. " My dove, the war between Falion and Marielle is still happening. Food is being rationed."

"All right."

"That's my dove." Grandmama smiled sweetly and braided my long wavy hair back swiftly.

I guess I should probably explain the dove thing. When I was four I rescued a dove, it became my closest companion and followed me everywhere. It was the kindest sweetest bird in the world but it died a year later. When the war started, Grandmama adamantly would say I was the kindest, sweetest person in the world. So I became her dove.

I smiled at her. "I'm going to eat at Ky's."

Then I raced out of the house jamming my boots onto my feet.

"Bye Grandmama!" I called back.

"Happy birthday!" She yelled.

Kyron's POV

I was jolted out of my sleep by an insistent knocking at the door.

"It's 6'o'clock in the morning! Go away, come back at a more humane time."

"Wake up, you lazy jlutterby!" It was Ari.

I tumbled out of bed. "Why are you here at this ungodly hour." I said as I opened the door.

"I was hungry, duh." She raised her eyebrows." Anyway. In celebration of our 13th birthday we are gonna go to the Stella Creek and stone hop, then we'll explore the woods, the we'll go to Goodfellow for the festival, then we'll stargaze of Izelle's Cliff." Arielle was practically bouncing off the walls with excitement. She twirled and leaped in circles around me.

" Stop. I'm getting dizzy." Ari froze. "Second, you want some Cinnamon Bread?" I asked.

"YES!" She screeched. "I thought you'd never ask!" Arielle scrambled for the kitchen.

When I stumbled into the kitchen, Ari was already nibbling on a cinnamon bread. I smiled mischievously. I snatched the bread from her hand.

"Pay! Keyraon, piveit baaaaa!" (A/N: Translation? Ok. *mocking tone of Arielle* Hey! Kyrin, give it baaaack!" No need to thank me. Well? Why aren't you people applauding my genius?")

All of a sudden I wasn't so sleepy. "Oh you want it baaaaack?" Ari nodded violently. I licked the whole thing.

"Here." I said, offering it to her.

"You know what?" Ari said, swallowing." I'm not so hungry all of a sudden." She pushed away the half of her first bread.

"C'mon, Ky! You can do it!" Ari had already leaped and balanced on the tiny rock in front of me. She was two rocks ahead, and was getting impatient.

"Are you a Jlutterby?" Ari taunted.

So I jumped. Hey, I dare you to be called a fluttery pink and purple thing with EIGHT wings by the love of your life and NOT do something completely irrational. Next thing I knew I was staring at the sky and a Sky. (Get it get it, clever author wordplay... Eh, never mind)  Ari tiptoed on the rock I had fail miserably at landing and reach out to help me up.

"Hey! Is that a star-man?"

"I'm still shocked, we went to that amazing festival and forgot to be bring any cash for food." Ari complained. "I'm starving. All I ate all day was that stupid half a cinnamon bread."

"It's right there genius."  I grabbed her hand, ignoring the tingle of electricity I felt.

"Oh, I see it now." Ari jumped up.
" Look at me! I am the amazing-hero-starman- thingamajigger!" She began executing perfect grand jetes.

"No fair, just cause Miss Danzaria is giving you private lessons, doesn't mean you need to show off." I teased.

Ari ignored me. She leaped higher and higher and closer and closer to the cliff's edge.

"Ari!" I screamed.

"Wha-" she began, opening her eyes, before plummeting toward the water.

She shrieked. I did the only thing I could do. I jumped after her.

Wow. I did not see that coming. Well, yes I did, but that's not the point. This chappie is a little shorter than most but it was filled with action. Anywaaaaays...the picture in the multimedia is of Ari's mom and dad, Izelle and Orion at their wedding.
