Happy Birthday to Me

Arielle's POV

"Happy Birthday dear Ari and Kyron! Happy birthday to you!" Our Second Year class sang.

Mrs. Summers, who was Miss Winters but she got married over summer break. Ky and I thought it was ironic. After the glade Kyron and I became best friends. We spent every break in that glade, to the point where the kids called it our glade. Last week some kid had called Ky dumb, and I felt terrible. If I had done more, maybe Ky wouldn't have been through that. It was my job to protect both of us and instead I was home sick with Jlutterby Pox.

"Finally!" Ky yelled. " We're seven!"

All the other kids had already turned seven. We were born on the last day of the year, Efter Hopp Dag in the old language, Following Hope Day in Marielian, our language. We stuffed ourselves with cake and jam, happy and content.

"All right everbody happy Efter Hopp Day! Lunch time!" Mrs. Summers said.

Kyron and I were going to have Mrs.Summers until the 18th birth year for Ky and 16th birth year for me. I wasn't happy about Ky getting more school time than me, but he promised to tell me what they learrned. Ky says I'm too worried about the future so today we're going down to the old mill pond where I'll let go of my worries. Kyron says the lake is magic, I don't believe him, but he's my best friend and it'd be rude not to try. After my swim we'll go to his house and I can finally meet his parents. Ky would've introduced me sooner, but with his parents' history with my Mama,he decided to wait.

My classmates decked me with flowers and Ky with leaves. We were the King and Queen of the forest and they were our subjects. We all ran through the woods laughing and playing. After I scolded(and beat up) a few kids, our class became our friends. Hazel Woods, Ky's cousin, was my best friend that was a girl. All the kids, except Hazel and Ky, had crossed the tree trunk that went over Lily's Pond. Just as I was halfway across, Hazel slipped, grabbed my tunic sleeve and dragged me into the pond with her.

"Aaaaaaahh!" I shrieked.

Kyron's POV

"Ari!" I stared at the eeriely smooth surface of the water. "Arielle!"

Hazel had already left the icy cold water of the pond. Uriel, the fastest runner had went to get Mrs.Summers. Everyone stared at the water, like staring would bring her to the surface quicker. Hazel was crying about how this was all her fault. I resisted the urge to tell her it was.Daddy, Momma, and the twin babies, who were first years ran through the bush.

"Arielle fell through the lake Poppa! She did, she did!" I cried.

Poppa went pale."Arielle Sky?"

I nodded. Momma knelt by the lake, peering into the water. Uncle Wavern leaped into the water as Mrs.Summers knelt next to Momma.

"Come on, Ari! Stop playing! Come out now." I whispered at the water.

Uncle Wavern pulled a limp, blue body with light brown hair and a flower behind her ear out of the pond.

"Ari?"

Yep. I'm definitely evil. Suprise!
