azula; part 2

(end of flashback)

Now you regretted not having an awkward feeling talk because you could be with her right now, accompanying her in her journey to true redemption, but you weren't. Just because you decided to be stupid and tell her that you didn't want to go with her to wherever she was going. See, you'd had a pretty bad argument the day before she left, long story short, you got mad at her for whatever reason and told her she was selfish, it was out of impulse really but it really hurt her, in past circumstances she probably would've shot a ray of lightning at you or whatever but I guess she really wanted to change so she couldn't , she just left your room and packed her things

The next day, she offered to go with her, 'just you and me, y/n, it might be our only chance' she said, and boy was she looking gorgeous as she said it, but your stupid little ego decided to act up and be petty, so you declined 'I don't think I want to go Azula, go ahead and leave'

God she was mad, but somehow she just remembered when Aang was teaching her to meditate, and she pretty much cooled off, like weeks after she left but still, it was something

You asked everybody around where she could be, you even went to your good friend, firelord Zuko, but he was unknown to her whereabouts, yet you insisted, and you decided to go through everything in her room, finally you found a marked map that lead to a spirit temple. So you took the chance and hopped on a ship to search for her, it had been far too long without having her and now you needed her to know you loved her, you thought that someone finally telling her she loves her and actually demonstrating it would be the missing piece to her recovery

For weeks you sailed, dealing with a few pirates but nothing you and your crew couldn't handle. You pondered about your destiny, wondering what it might be, and you thought that maybe, just maybe, it was to help princess Azula come back from the insanity she was living in, you had to take the chance, whether it meant to confess or even challenge her to Agni Kai so she could trust you again, you were going to do whatever it took.

Finally, you reached your destination and you ordered your crew to retreat, they took a smaller vessel back to the fire nation, leaving you with your ship, which you hoped would take you and Azula back to the fire nation, back home.

You looked around and gulped, it was a peaceful place, yet it felt creepy. You brushed it off though, Azula being your top priority. As you walked through the seemingly huge place, you felt something approaching, in fears of it being an evil spirit you fell quiet and sneaked around. As you made your way to a corner, a blast of blue fire headed your way, you quickly redirected it towards whoever charged at you, still you hadn't processed that the only present fire bender who could bend blue fire was in fact, your destiny, Azula.

"Azula, stop!" You raised your hands and she finally came out from the dark, there she was, staring at you with the most conflicted look you'd seen on her, yet you felt so comforted looking in those eyes. Maybe you were a masochist but you were so sure you loved that woman more than anything you the whole world

"Y/n? What the hell are you doing here?" She asked, she didn't sound excited, but she didn't sound mad either, she was just, confused.

"What does it look like I'm doing here?" You said, motioning your hands towards her and she slightly scoffed

"Well, I wouldn't think it's for a good reason, I thought you hated me before I left" she said unamused, with a roll of her eyes following, you shook your head

"Look, I was just frustrated with you, whatever I said, it was out in impulse, I didn't want to hurt your feelings, neither did I meant everything I said. I've made it clear before, I'm sure you remember what I said that night when we saw the man that looked like your father" she still looked conflicted, but you knew she remembered, the slight red on her face being a bit of a giveaway

"I don't know, I just think you were pretty sure of what you were saying when we fought" she looked down, she was still mad, and wanted more than just a pathetic apology, she wanted to really let go of those feelings that made her upset with you, and you could sense that, so you had an idea come to you, "look, I know the perfect way for you to vent your frustration at me" you threw your robe and helmet off and were left with only your slight armor "I challenge you to an Agni Kai"

She looked at you confused at first, but you felt a glint of excitement from her, a smirk formed in her face soon after, "I think that's the perfect way for you to work your way back to me" she replied sassily, you felt a bit scared, knowing how great of a bender she is, a prodigy in fact, but that didn't mean she was the only prodigy at firebending, you were determined to beat her, not harm her really, but just enough so she could be at the closest state of peace. You knew how to fight her, sooner or later she'll fold.

She tied her hair and you went outside to wait for her. After a while, she arrived. "Well I'm more ready than I've ever been, commander y/n" you smirked and a second later, you were already shooting various blasts of fire towards her, she easily dodged them, but again, you weren't meaning to harm her. She quickly made her way towards you and shot a burst at you, you barely managed to escape without a scratch "she must be really bothered." You said to yourself

After a tedious battle, she was starting to get exhausted and you showed no sign of exhaustion "just let me mess you up slightly now, I don't want to have to shoot lightning at you" she joked, but you could see how she was almost tired of the fight, so you decided to end it

You skillfully jumped onto a wall and forced yourself onto her. She fell to the ground and groaned, you straddled her and pointed your fist right at her left eye, burning her would mean a rightful end to the Agni Kai, but you obviously weren't going to do that, so you just let her talk herself out of it "you won't do it, will you?" She asked, and you could see how she was trying to play it cool but was a little worried deep down

You just stood up and offered her your hand to take, she took and stood up "of course I won't, I just wanted you to blow off some steam" you gave her a smile and she chuckled while looking into your eyes "I wouldn't have done it either" you raised your eyebrow, questioning if that was really true "What?! I really meant that" she rolled her eyes and you looked at her in the most loving way possible "or, in other words, I'm glad you came" she whispered, you could barely catch it, but you did

"I was worried you'd push me away when I came, but I think I like this outcome better" she blushed and smiled softly, you couldn't really hold back anymore, you sighed and embraced her in a hug "I missed you Azula, I missed you so badly" you spoke softly into her neck, she hugged your waist gently and rubbed your back "of course you'd miss me, darling" you pulled away and squinted your eyes

"I'm sorry!" She laughed and grabbed you by your waist, pulling you closer again, "As I said before, I'm glad you came" suddenly you felt her getting awkward, not in a bad way, more like in a "idk how to flirt" way "I guess that... what I'm trying to tell you is that I..." she hesitated and was really struggling to get the words out "I l..." she breathed heavily "ugh, talking about feelings sucks" she said and you felt her grip your waist for comfort, "it's okay Azula, you don't need to say it, I under-" you were cut off by her lips quickly grasping yours in a deep kiss, not like you haven't kissed before but this time you actually knew it meant something

"God, I love you y/n, I've nev-I've never loved someone as badly as I love you. I was going crazy just thinking about you maybe finding someone else while I wasn't around" she put her head on the crook of your neck and you could feel her crying softly

"I'm so proud of you Azula, you've come so far, maybe not in the best path ever but I know that you'll find the way, you've found it already, and I couldn't be happier for you" she chuckled and raised her head, "well aren't you going to say it back?" She frowned "oh, sorry! I love you, princess Azula" you mockingly replied and bowed down to her "so much for a practically banished princess, don't you think, commander?" "We'll work on that, I believe you could do a little more time healing though, and I would be more than happy to help you with that"
