⚠️ warning - i'm not following the description of the hunter exam. Of course i'll put inside the main things that happens adding a few more things of my own, but like i said i'll do my own way and please respect it since the entire story is plan on going in a different way from the anime/manga.
When Biscuit departed from the group she told you guys to go on until you reached the top of a hill that was popping in the countryside.
She wasn't really clear on how to get there, she just told us that you had to reach that point to start the exam.
Waving at her as she ran off in the opposite direction, Leorio beside you let out an annoyed groan.
Walking in a small street surrounded by many houses the 7 of you were embraced in a fit silence.
Only the sound of birds and the ground clicking underneath your shoes could be heard.
Walking for a few more meters in complete silence Leorio finally broke the silence.
"This is a creepy space.. i don't see a single person..." he started walking backwards glancing around himself.
"Oh? I see them, look there" Gon extended his hand on the front and as everyone diverted their attention where Gon was pointing at, and the unexpected happened.
There was like a bamboo counter with behind sat an elderly woman while at her back stood different people with long white tunics and masks of different colors.
You stopped in your tracks as everyone else did the same.
"Exciting." the elderly woman says which made you all furrow your brows.
"Exciting." she repeated but earning just another confused reaction from the group.
"What's with the freak show?" Leorio blunted under his breath.
"Exciting two choice quiz!" the woman yelled as her face scrunched up and her eyes widen.
When her face returned to a normal expression the masked people behind her started playing some instruments. Leorio was right, what the actual hell was this?
She earned a numb expression from the group as her eyes never leaved you.
With a roll of her eyes- fortunately not noticeable she began explaining.
"To reach that tree, you must pass through this town-" you all rise your eyebrows knowing fully well that it was the only way to arrive there, "give me the wrong answer, and you're disqualified."
She took a pause resting her eyes and then kept staring at your movements.
"You'll have to give up on taking this years hunter exam."
"Hm.. i see.. this is a checkpoint of the hunter exam, isn't it?" Kurapika says with a half smile.
"Is that it? Then i'm a master in quizzes" Leorio bent down to pose on the floor his briefcase and then straighten up.
"Wait- one question?!" he yelled out after realizing it.
"The answer has to be or number one-" she raised her index finger, "-or number two." she raised her middle finger too.
"All the other answers are wrong."
"Wait a second" Leorio pushed you on the side and stepped on the front of the group.
"There is only one question for the seven of us?! It means that i'm gonna be eliminated if they get it wrong?!"
"What are you trying to say?" Kurapika snapped back at Leorio crossing his arms over his chest. "I'm worried that the probabilities you get it wrong are much higher."
"What did you say?" Leorio clenched his teeth lowering at Kurapika's height.
"Hey until someone knows the correct answer everything is going to be okay" you say as you glance between the two boys. "don't argue about it" you saw Gon rubbing the back of his neck with a nervous smile.
"Yeah even because i'm bad at quizzes" you smiled at Gon's honesty and pat his head gently.
"Ugh..." Leorio returned straight and adjusted his hands into his pockets.
