It had been a month since I last saw Billie at Play Day Cafe. She had agreed to attend counseling, but it took some convincing on my part to get her on board. With her tour looming on the horizon, I couldn't shake off the nervousness about her mental well-being, especially with her departure imminent. So, I scheduled our first therapy session in a couple of days.

My friends came over to lend a hand around the house and help prepare dinner. Adri, who owns a few businesses in the city, was out visiting her stores, so it was just us for the time being.

"I finally got your rugrat to sleep," China announces as she descends the stairs. "If this isn't a sign to not have kids, I don't know what is," she adds, joining me in the kitchen.

"Girl, the way you be getting dicked down, you better hope and pray your man doesn't get you pregnant," Maya teases, causing us to erupt into laughter.

"That's what birth control and condoms are for," China retorts.

"True, but it's Dani who got caught up," Maya chimes in.

"What? I like kids," I defend myself, focusing on cooking the asparagus.

"Yeah, but how did you get caught up with your baby momma twice... and you're gay? I thought gay people didn't have to deal with pregnancy scares," China asks genuine confusion in her expression.

"Don't piss me off right now," I reply, laughing at her incredulous questions. "You know how I got pregnant."

"What's your baby mama been up to these days? You don't talk about her much, even though I know you guys still see each other," Maya asks as she peels the potatoes.

"We only see each other when Chloe is around. It's not about us; it's for the kids," I respond truthfully.

"Baby, she paid your bills in advance and is begging for you back at every damn chance. Girl, I wish my man would pay a damn bill, if I could find a man," Maya adds again, shaking her head.

"She is begging for Dani back but is messing around with all those girls she posts on her story at parties. You don't just post up with girls in bed and not mess around," China interjects. "Quite frankly, Dani, you're better than me, 'cause I would've cussed her out for playing games like that. Messing around with random girls every other night and then coming to you, begging you to take her back like you're dumb."

"I don't know... I don't think she's been doing well since we broke up, and I'm honestly worried for her," I admit, trying to block out what China had just said. I knew things were tough for Billie, but I wasn't aware of the extent. I hadn't been keeping up with her life, fearing it would hurt too much to know.

"What does Adri think about this?" Maya asks.

"She wasn't all that happy about the baby. She doesn't really like Billie being around that much either, but she understands it's good for the kids. It's just that she works so much; it's hard for Billie not to step in and help. I can't watch Chloe by myself, take care of the house, cook dinner, and clean after a long day of work," I explain, feeling the weight of my responsibilities of being a parent.

"You ever think that maybe you guys don't work?" Maya asks, her voice tinged with concern. "I mean, how are you in a relationship and you're doing everything on your own... Does she even try to come home early to help out?"

"I mean, I'm not doing everything on my own... I have you guys and Bil— I mean, some weekends she does get caught up with a little bit of extra work, but she takes Chloe to the park now and then," I respond, taking the peeled potatoes from Maya and placing them into a pot of boiling water.
