billie povLying in bed, my phone lights up with a Facetime call from my mom. I swipe to accept the call, greeted by the familiar sight of my mom's smiling face. "Hi, Mom," I greet her, trying to match her warmth.
"Hello, Billie. How's the tour going?" Her voice is filled with genuine curiosity and concern. "I hope I'm not interrupting any good sleep time."
"It's been great, Mom. Honestly, I love seeing my fans happy every other night," I reply, my exhaustion masked by excitement. "I've just been really busy, sorry I haven't been checking up on you."
"No need to apologize, dear. We understand that work is work. Your father and I are very proud of you. This was all you ever wanted," she reassures me, her words bringing a sense of comfort. Despite the distance, her motherly love transcends through the screen.
"Yeah, something like that," I murmur, feeling a mix of emotions at the mention of my childhood dreams.
"I wanted to talk to you about something important," my mom continues, her expression turning serious. "I talked to Dani today."
"Mom, what did I say about getting in between my relationships?" I sigh, frustration creeping into my voice. It's not the first time she's meddled, and it likely won't be the last.
My mom's expression softens, understanding the tension in my voice. "I know, honey, but I think you need to hear what she had to say," she responds gently. "She seemed really concerned about you, Billie. She mentioned some things about unresolved feelings and how hard it's been for both of you since the breakup."
II exhale deeply, feeling a knot form in my stomach. "I appreciate your concern, Mom, but Dani and I are trying to move forward in our own ways," I explain, attempting to convey a sense of assurance that I'm handling things. "We're both focused on what's best for Chloe and the baby."
"Billie, that girl loves you, and you're making a foolish mistake by not trying to work things out with her," my mom says, her tone firm.
"Mom, I begged her to take me back multiple times. I'm done making a fool out of myself," I reply, standing up for myself. "If she wanted me back, she would've made it clear. Last time I heard, she was getting her feelings together. Until then, I have to do me. I can't forever be stuck on my ex, especially one who doesn't know what she wants. I mean, she's in a whole relationship right now."
My mom shakes her head, sighing. "I just don't want you to regret this, Billie. You two were good together."
"I know, Mom. But I can't keep holding on to something that's not there anymore," I say, trying to sound resolute. "I need to move forward too, for my own sake and for Chloe's."My mom nods slowly, her expression showing that she understands my perspective. "I hear you, honey," she replies, her tone softening. "But just remember, sometimes it takes time for people to realize what they truly want. And sometimes, they need a little push in the right direction."
I sigh, running a hand through my hair in frustration. "I know, Mom. But I can't keep waiting around for Dani to figure things out. I need to focus on my own happiness and well-being, even if that means moving on without her."
"I understand, sweetheart," my mom says, her voice filled with empathy. "Just know that I'm here for you, no matter what you decide."
"Thanks, Mom," I say, feeling a sense of gratitude wash over me. "I appreciate your support."
As I end the call with my mom, a storm of emotions swirls inside me. Part of me longs to reconcile with Dani and salvage what we had, while another part knows that I need to prioritize my own happiness and growth.
