Adri finally comes home around 8:30, her footsteps echoing through the hallway as she enters our home. As soon as she arrives, she heads straight for the shower, eager to wash away the day's stresses clinging to her skin.

After some time, she emerges from the bathroom, clad in her comfortable pajamas, and settles onto the bed beside me. "Hey, baby, how was your day?" she asks, her voice softened by exhaustion.

"It was good," I respond, setting my iPad aside. "I was helping a client with some real estate planning, crunching numbers, and such."

She nestles her head against my sore breasts, a reminder of the changes my body is undergoing with the impending arrival of our baby. I feel her relax, ready to drift off to sleep, but I know there's something we need to discuss before we can rest.

"Don't go to sleep yet," I say gently, shifting to face her. "We need to talk."

"About what?" she mumbles, her brow furrowing in confusion.

"About us," I reply, urging her to sit up so we can have a serious conversation.

"What about us?" she asks, sitting up as well, her gaze meeting mine. "Is this about your ex?"

"Nothing to do with Billie," I clarify, taken aback by her assumption. "Why would this have anything to do with her? This is about us, Adri."

She sighs, frustration evident in her voice. "You're always around her, Dani. You broke up months ago, but it feels like she's still a big part of your life."

"That's not fair," I protest. "Yes, we co-parent Chloe, but you knew that coming into this relationship."

Adri's tone sharpens, her defensiveness rising. "I have a career, Dani. I can't just drop everything to cater to your needs."

"I'm not asking you to drop everything," I reply calmly. "But I need you to prioritize our family too. I want us to share the responsibility."

"Your kids, Dani," she retorts, her frustration evident. "I was never ready to be a mother."

"Then why did you choose to be with me?" I ask, feeling a pang of hurt. "Why didn't you communicate this earlier?"

She sighs, her expression softening with realization. "I'm sorry, Dani. I've been neglecting us. I haven't adjusted to our relationship dynamic, and I've been unfair to you. I'll do better. Let me be there for you and our family."

Her apology warms my heart, and I reach for her hand, placing it over my belly. "Can you do that for us?" I ask, hoping for her commitment.

"I can, Dani. I love you," she says, sincerity shining in her eyes.

"I love you too," I respond, feeling a weight lift off my shoulders as we embrace.

I step into my home, exhausted from the day, it washes over me like a heavy wave. I was ready to collapse onto her couch and unwind, but my plans were quickly derailed when I found Naira sitting in my living room.
