Melanie Albon POV

George was being oddly pleasant. He was lost in his thoughts for longer than he usually would've been, I didn't even know he could think for such a long time in a row. I thought his attention span was of a few seconds, not minutes.

"I might take you on that offer. Alex had invited me, but I can go a few days earlier, maybe make that vacation a real hell for you," I say as he prepares to pay for our dinner, and he smirks.

"I will make sure it is an equal experience for me. Treat me well, and I might treat you well, too; we might be in for a surprise," he says cockily, and I roll my eyes.

"You can always surprise me, George, just never positively," I say as I stand up, taking my purse with me. He nods, walking ahead and paying the bill rather quickly.

We were walking to his car, and I saw him put the directions to his apartment. I like his apartment; it's well-centered and pretty comfortable. I also felt a little more secure. I don't think he knows Oliver was released; he had no criminal record so that he could await his trial freely; he just had to keep himself away from me enough not to break the protection order the court ordered. He couldn't even contact me virtually, as that would count as breaking it.

I didn't tell anyone. Alex would make me move in with him. George would just be paranoid. And Nina would never let me have a second alone without worrying; I would be fine. He stayed away for years, and he surely will do it now. George fucked him up pretty well, I must admit it. I almost didn't recognize him, and he didn't even look at me in the court. I am pretty thankful for what George did.

"Can you prepare your stuff in time for the flight?" He asked as we approached his apartment after a quiet ride.

"Give me half an hour; I always prepare my bags at the last minute and somehow manage never to forget something important, only stupid stuff. Once, I brought my curling iron and forgot the hairbrush," I say proudly, and he laughs.

"Half an hour to prepare the luggage for two weeks? You will drag me to stores everywhere," he says amusedly. He drives to my apartment, finding a parking space quite easily.

"Will you complain? I really needed some new lingerie; I will let you choose if you pay," I say as I take the seatbelt off, and his head quickly turns to me, the corner of his lips slightly rising as he looks me up and down slowly.

"I mean, you know I like to complain; I will not complain about that," he starts drawing closer involuntarily, and I open the door, leaving the passenger seat.

"I will see you in half an hour," I say, and he nods.

"I will go get my stuff and will be here," he says before I close the door and walk to my apartment building.

I managed to do it in half an hour, and I heard my doorbell; I checked it and saw George waiting.

"I could've done that," I say as he takes my luggage and he simply shrugs as he holds the elevator for me.

"I know how to be a gentleman sometimes, so don't be that surprised," he bites back, and I laugh. I give my house a last check to make sure nothing is wrong before my last-minute vacation.

We went to the airport and checked into our first-class seats. So fancy. But I could see some of the looks we were given; one was particularly annoying to me. The woman was constantly looking me up and down, so as soon as I could, I went to the bathroom and washed my face, trying to calm myself down before I did something I might've regretted.

I got out and found her in my seat. She talked to George very happily, but he was somewhat confused.

"You are in my seat," I say nonchalantly, and she looks up at me, almost bored.

"Mine is that one," her tone pissed me off. She was brushing me off and I laughed.

"Get out of my seat, learn some manners darling," my tone is now getting angrier and George was focused on me.

"How about an exchange? I have no one by my side," she said it like I won a jackpot.

"Look, we've been nice, but that's her seat, and I don't know you from nowhere. I want her here so you can now go; there are limits," George says calmly.

"We were having a good time; maybe we can continue this once we land," she suggests as she touches his arms, but he brushes her away.

"Excuse me, she is being extremely inconvenient. Could you take care of this? The behavior is unacceptable," George says as a flight attendant was passing by.

The situation is quickly fixed with some dirty looks between us and I sit by George's side.

"You let her sit here? Are you that dense?" I am still stunned he let her go that far.

"I had the headphones on and didn't notice it. She was here for about two minutes, and I was telling her you would be coming back at any minute. I think she might've recognized me and wanted her chance. I trusted you to give her the boot," he says as he puts down his phone.

"Listen to me carefully," I say as I lean closer, knowing she was watching.

"Believe me, I am listening," he says as he travels between my lips and my eyes.

"If you want anything after, don't let other women sit where my place is; that can go bad for you," I warn him, and he nods.

"I would tell you where to sit if we weren't in a public place. But yes, I understood the message, I will be more careful," he says before leaning closer and kissing me. It took me by surprise, but I kissed him back.

These two weeks will be hard, but they will bring me closer to winning the bet. I can live with that.
