Edwards POV

Bella: And since when do vampires like baseball?

Edward: It's the American pastime. Plus, there's a thunderstorm coming. Its the only time we can play. You'll see why.

Anaiahs POV

Bella and Edward pull up in the Jeep. She takes in a rough baseball diamond, set into an enormous field in the lap of the Olympic peaks. Esme and Emmett come to greet Bella.

Esme: Good thing youre here. We need an umpire.

Emmet: *He gives a big, crooked smile* She thinks we cheat.

Nik: That is because you do brother.

Esme: Call em as you see em, Bella.

Alice: ts time.

A deep RUMBLE of thunder shakes the forest and I relish the feeling. I am up first. Alice has a mean curve ball. But I played this game as a kid. I wanted to go to the league. But not aging would cause too many questions. Alice pitches at lightning-fast speed. Edward and Emmett take positions in the outfield.

I watch as the ball gets closer and closer towards me. Remember when Esme talked about cheating? Well, Im one of them. But is it really cheating if I am just using what I have? I chanted an incantation that lets me see things slower and clearer. Basically, enhancing my eyesight. I hit the ball dead on, and I took off. Edward is fast, but not faster than me. I am at home base before he gets the chance to throw it. I give him a smug grin.

Edward: Cheater.

Me: How dare you accuse me of such a thing. *I put a hand over my heart faking astonishment* I dont cheat. We are supernatural, I used what I was gifted with.

He rolls his eyes, and the games kept going. Alice lined up to pitch again.

Alice: Wont be as easy this time.

Alice threw a curve ball and Rose smashed the ball with the aluminum bat. It Cracked like thunder and is then followed directly by real Thunder.

Bella: Now I get why you need thunder.

Esme chuckles. The ball Shoots like a meteor deep into the forest, rocketing through the trees. Edward disappears after it.

Bella: That has to be a home run.

Esme: Edwards very fast.

Rosalie darts around the bases as Edward races out of the forest with the ball and whips it to home plate. Esme catches it a millisecond before Rosalie slides in.

Bella: Yer out?

Kathrine: Why so timid?

Esme nods Bella watches as Carlisle hits a line drive. Edward and Emmett race for the catch, diving and colliding with such might that it sounds like enormous boulders falling. They missed the ball and Carlisle was safe. Jas is next. He slams the next pitch deep into the forest. But before Edward can chase it, Alice suddenly gasps. Her face went blank for a second.

Alice: Stop. I didnt see them...

We all stop. Edward is immediately at Bella's side. We instantly gather at home plate around Alice.

Alice Theyre traveling so quickly.

Kol: Who?

Ros: You said they left the county.

Kathrine: Who are you talking about?

Alice: They did, but then they heard us... *She looks at Edward* And changed their minds.

Edward: Put your hair down.

Rosalie: Like thatll help. I could smell her from across the field. *Edward ignores Rosalie as he arranges Bellas hair*

Me: Someone is going to tell me what is going on before I get mad.

Esme: There is, or was, another coven here. They have been feeding on the humans and causing us trouble. We thought they left, but it seems as if they didnt.

Edward: I shouldnt have brought you here. Im so sorry.

Theres a faint rustle then three people emerge. They near us and the first one grabs a bat. Laurent holds up the baseball.

Dark man: I believe this belongs to you. *He tosses. the ball me and I catch it.

Me: Thanks.

Kathrine steps closer to me.

Kathrine: I dont like their vibe, Naiah.

Dark man: Could you use three more players?

Carlisle: Of course.

Dark man: Im Laurent. This is Victoria. And James.

Kol: Would you like to bat first?

Laurent picks up a bat. We all take the field. My siblings and I take the field. Bekah, Kol is on first, with Nik behind him,

Carlisle: Im afraid your hunting activities have caused something of a mess for us.

Laurent: Our apologies. We didnt realize the territory had been claimed.

Esme: Yes, we maintain a permanent residence.

The three newcomers exchange a look of surprise.

Laurent: Really? Well, we wont be a problem anymore.

Victoria: The humans were tracking us, but we led them East.

Jasper pitches the ball and Laurent slams it. But Alice is up a tree is a flash and the ball slams into Alices hand. Laurent is pissed, but James smiles ever so slightly, delighted at the discovery of worthy opponents. James is up next, and he used all his strength to hit the ball. He runs past first, past Edward and Bella

James: You brought a snack. Edward and I spring in front of Bella, baring our teeth. James Growls back. Me: The girl is with us.

Laurent: We wont harm her. *He says trying to defuse situation*

Emmet: Try it. *He smirks. I look back at him. Fucker just wants to get into a fight. I smile at the thought, but get pulled out of my thoughts by my sister*

Bekah: I think it best if you leave.

Laurent: Yes, I can see the game is over. Well go now. James?

James eyes dont leave Edwards. Laurent puts a hand on James shoulder, and finally, James backs into the woods with his cohorts, disappearing. Once theyre gone, Esme immediately gathers up the bats.

Carlisle: Get Bella out of here.

Kathrine: That James guy is a tracker.

Edward: A what?

Kathrine: A tracker. They get off on hunting and killing things. The longer the hunt or the more wanted the thing is, the more fun it is going to be for him. Now that he knows and entire coven of vampires is protecting one human, he is going to come after her. If he gets his hands on her, one of two things will happen.

Alice: He will kill her.

Me: Or turn her.
