Living life this way hasn't been the easiest. I mean being me hasn't been the easiest. My life has been filled with drugs and violence. A mother that doesn't care about her self , let alone has enough time to put the pipe down and care about me. A father I barely know, hell I wouldn't know him if he walked past me. "Taylor get your ass up it's time for school", my mother spat opening my closet of a bedroom with only one blanket on the floor that I lie down on. As she cracked open the closest door the smell of mildew and piss hit my nose causing me to make a face.

Stepping out of the closet and stretching my legs and arms I decide it is in fact time to get dressed. I don't know how I over slept today. Just what I needed to start up my day. It's my last day of school but it still means so much to me. See school is my only way out of this dump, school is my get away and my meal.

I brush my teeth and wash my face  happy that we at-least have water today, I jump into my jeans put on my shirt and hurry to catch the bus. Brushing my hair back into a ponytail I brush past my mother's new supply and boyfriend. "So you can't say good morning", he says sucking his teeth eyes glued to my ass. " Goodmorning ", I say as dry as possible. I don't like him and don't feel comfortable around him. He's got these weird eyes and tattoos that have kind of faded all over his body from what I could see. A gold tooth on his front right tooth that only made him look as stinky as he was. He reeked of piss and sweat and seemed to only have a pair of pants and two shirts that he would rotate.

Finally getting past him and getting to the bus that I almost missed I see my best-friend well my only friend setting waiting for me. "Hey Shay how are you doing this morning girly", Shay knew everything about me, she would be a listening ear, a sister, brother, whatever I needed. Shay never judged me even though she had the perfect family on paper. Both parents in the house hold, middle class, only child type of perfect. We've known each other since kindergarten and were as thick as thieves. "I'm doing good how are you doing? Anything I need to be worried about ?" I give her the side eye and begin to explain my morning to her.

As we make it to the school and we walk down the halls being greeted by staff and teachers. We make it to our first period English and sat in our assigned seats. Mrs. Pears our English teacher is smiling and greeting everyone, one by one as we walk in. Shay and I take our seats as I finish telling her about my morning. " And girl I just don't get what she sees in him I mean besides the drugs, like why is he even here? Just get what you need and send him on his way, you feel me, Shay. Uhm, hello earth to Shay." " Uh " Shay said looking confused and spaced out. " Shay did you hear anything I just said, I thought you said you were having a good morning what's on your mind?"
" Girl it's nothing I'm just....." Shay started to tell me but Mrs. Pears interrupted.

" Okay class settle down, settle down. Okay so I just want to say how proud of you all I am , you all have come this far. Don't let this be the end of your journeys there is so much for you all to learn. Can everyone please read what's in the white board aloud ", Mrs.Pears questions. We all read the words in unison : " Tomorrow, I'll be at the table when company comes. Nobody'll dare say to me," Eat in the kitchen", Then.
"Can anyone tell me who said that by a show of hands?" Raising my hand and Mrs.Pears calls on me as I am the only one with my hand raised. " Yes Taylor", she says with a smile on her face. " Langston Hughes Mrs.Pears." "Yes ma'am  that is correct, and I want every student to think about what he said and what it means to you ,as a final grade. Write it down on a piece of  paper and turn it in at the end of class ,one paragraph and you can talk the rest of class hour, it is the last day after all."

After I finish writing my paragraph I turn to Shay to figure out what has got her all twisted up. She's usually the smartest one in class right next to me with her hand raised ready to answer any question. What had her so spaced out today? " Shayla what is up girl ,you've been so spaced out this morning, I mean did I say something wrong?" I look over at her waiting for an answer as she looks back at me with tears in her eyes. " Tay I think I messed up this time", tears welling up in her eyes, " I mean really messed up this time."
" Well just tell me what it is ", I say starting to worry, " Shay, whatever it is we can get throw it together, you know this, you know me." As Shay looked away in shame the bell rings signaling for us to go to the next class.

Shayla grabs her backpack and rushed out of the classroom. I mean how bad could it be, she never got into any trouble she's a straight A student. I see Shay walk into the girl restroom so I follow after her. " Shay you'll feel a lot better after you let it out, just tell me so I can help you. You know everything about me. My mother is a crackhead, I've never met my father. Every man my mother gets with tries to do something me and she knows it. Shay you're the only person in this world that cares about me I have to help you", I say now in a panic.

"Tay I just don't want you to be disappointed in me, but I might as well tell you, that I'm pregnant."
