Jordan had been thinking the whole ride. Once we finally made it to this fancy restaurant he has valet park. They hang his keys on the wall and then open my door so I can get out. Looking around the restaurant I wish I would've at least dressed up some. You could tell it was a high end restaurant, they had this beautiful view of the city. As I look on the menu I see nothing in here is cheap, everything was over forty dollars. I let Jordan tell them what we want to eat and we hand our menus back to them. " Make sure you bring us a good bottle of wine, no cheap shit", Jordan says. " Yes sir", the man replied back.
Returning with the wine he poured some in each glass and walks away."Now what do you think we should do after the three days are up", Jordan says out of nowhere. "Well, what about Jamal, why can't we ask him", I say answering his question with a question. At that moment I realize if I was going to stay with them and help them I needed to know more about them. " Jamal's going through something right now and I don't know when he'll be able to come back to work. You said you wanted to help but you know nothing about this drug shit", Jordan replied back. " Jamal has to get over it like I did, because Shayla's not coming back", I say back eating my mashed potatoes. " He can't just get over it Taylor, Jamal has bipolar depression, just like our mother, I learned the hard way to just let it pass, not to push him", Jordan said. "So now what I was thinking gives Jamal three more days to get better, now that I know it might take longer than that I don't know what we should do", I reply. Jordan takes a sip of his wine and places the glass back on its coaster. " I tell you what, I'll let you into Jamal's office later today and see if you can figure it out, if not I might have to give the business to my cousin Vince", Jordan replies back. " So why not just give it to your cousin, I mean I don't know what I'm doing and you know that, why go through all this trouble", I question. "Because Vince's father is my father's brother, and ever since my father's death he's been trying to get his hands on that business. Every year at every family BBQ my uncle tries to talk Jamal into handing the business over, but he won't", Jordan says. "Being in this family means being loyal, even if the one you're loyal to is in the grave. My father wanted my brother and I to run his businesses. Jamal is the only one who knows how to run it exactly how he would've wanted it", Jordan continues," And I'm not giving up my father's business." I sit there in shock by what he had just said. The whole time I thought it was just a family BBQ. When really they do this "family BBQ" to cover up that they are really doing business. " So why don't you just do it. Learn this side of the business and take over until Jamal gets better", I ask still trying to get an understanding.
They bring out the dessert and sit the plates in front of us. " Hope you two enjoy, this is courtesy of the chef Mr.Sanchez", the waiter said pointing at the chef by the kitchen doors. Jordan looks up and bows his head thanking the chef. "Mr.Sanchez. Madam," the waiter said leaving. I wasn't surprised that he knew the chef, as much family as he had, I know now that they must have a lot of strings. "I can't do it, nun of it ever made sense to me. My father always said my temper would get the best of me in the street game. I'd snap out in a second and then try to pick up the pieces. Even you're smart enough to understand that wouldn't be any good", Jordan said. "Okay I'll look into his office, see what I can come up with, but if I find nothing we find another way, we're not giving the business to your cousin Vince", I say back.
Leaving out of the restaurant we wait on the valet to bring Jordan's car around. They slowly pull up with his car and open the door for me to get in. Jordan walks around to the drivers side and tips the valet man, gets in the car, put on his seat belt and drives off. As he's driving I realized we were on the way to a near by clothing store. It was around a lot of other stores and seemed to have so many nice things. Jordan gets out of the car and I follow right behind him. Walking through the store I see this beautiful dress that was draped over one side with a red lace train in the back. Who could've made something so beautiful? Everything looked outstanding but that red dress was my favorite by far. As we get closer to the back of the store I see older and younger women sitting around and talking. One of them walked up to me and placed her hand on my cheek. "So you're the one Linda was telling me about, she told me I'd meet you one of these days",she says to me. Then she turned around "Jordan why are you here, what's wrong now", the older lady asked. "Aunty we might need you, things are starting to get out of hand", Jordan said. She looks at him confused," You don't need my help, you have her", she said pointing to me. " Do you doubt the prophecy, did you not believe the words I gave you", she said to him. " It's not that, it's just I don't see how it can happen, I thought I had more time", Jordan said. I began to feel as if I'm invisible, although they are talking about me I have no idea what it all means. "You need to have some faith child", she says to Jordan. Turning to me she says,"Can I see your hand?"
I give her my hand and she turns it so that my palm is facing up. "I see pain, lots of pain, and abandonment, but no hate in your heart,I see determination," she says still looking at my palm," you have an angel watching over you, your grandmother she protects you and loves you." The last part made a tear fall from my eye. A tear I had been holding back for a while. "Yep she's the one, the one I told you about Jordan, but you already knew that and that's why you brought her here," she says turning and looking at him. Jordan doesn't say anything, all I see is this look of fear on his face. What the fuck was going on. The one to do what, and the prophecy being about me was very unlikely. Next thing I know Jordan grabs ahold of my hand and leads me out of the store. Why was he acting like we were in danger. Last time I checked this was he's aunt's store and she wasn't after us ,but with how quickly he was walking you would think other wise. Finally making it to the car I pull my hand away from him. " Jordan what the fuck is going on, what is this prophecy your aunt was speaking of", I say loud enough for anyone to hear. " Lower your fucking voice, and get in the fucking car", Jordan yells back opening the car door so I can get in. I get into the car pissed, who did he think he was. I needed my questions answered before we went any farther.Jordan gets into the car and drives us in the direction to his house. "Listen, I didn't mean to yell, I apologize", Jordan continues," There was this prophecy circling around my family about my brother and I. I'm sure you've heard it by now. But what you didn't know is the woman I am to fall in love with would be my better half. In life and in business. Only for me to mess it all up, and there's nothing I can do to change it", Jordan said. I didn't know what to say, it's like he knew what I was thinking. "You're the woman that I fall in love with Taylor, and you're going to run my father's drug business", Jordan said. I'm in shock right now I feel my stomach turn and I feel my nerves coming up my throat. "Can you pull the car over, please", I say with my hand over my mouth. Jordan pulls over the car and I throw up all of my nerves on the side of the rode. I get back into the car and wipe off my mouth with a napkin out of the glove compartment.
As we make it to Jordan's housing community he puts the code in the gate and comes to a stop when we get in front of his house. I get out of the car not saying a word. He unlocks the front door and I walk right in going to my room. Setting on my bed I can't believe what Jordan just told me. I knew of the prophecy but I never thought I would be playing this big of a role in it. I'm a crackheads daughter not a queen pin. These people must be crazy I thought to myself. I hear a knock at the door and my door knob turn," Let me know when you want to go into Jamal's office, a doctor will come and check on him tomorrow", Jordan said. "I think I'm just going to call it a night tonight and start again in the morning," I reply back. "Don't forget we only have three days, after that we will have problems at our front door," he says back leaving out of my room. I take my shower and get into the bed. Staring at the ceiling I think about how I'm going to pull this off. I couldn't tell if this was good luck or bad karma. I was supposed to go to college not get stuck selling drugs and running a drug business. I wanted to sleep but I couldn't, I could feel the weight of all the things on my back. Somehow I finally drift off to sleep and let yesterday's probably a be yesterday's problems.
The next morning I wake up feeling like shit. Yesterday problems had showed up today and I had to do something about it. I get up and brush my teeth and head into the kitchen for breakfast. My plate is already made and I eat a little bacon and toast. Today's the day I have to get down to business. I head up stairs to Jordan's room and knock on his door. I can hear him talking on the phone as I open his bedroom door. "All I'm trying to do is talk business my man that's it. I can call back later or we could get this over with now. Exactly let's get down to business 7pm today let's set up a meeting. Yeah. Alright, see you then", Jordan said hanging up the phone. "I'm here so we can figure this out and get to business", I say. "Well let me get the keys and I'll take you to Jamal's office", Jordan said opening the draw to his desk and grabbing the keys. We walk down the stairs and make a quick right to a locked door. Taking the keys Jordan scanned a card over the key pad and open the office door. As I walk into the room I can't believe what I'm seeing. "You've got to be fucking kidding me", I say out loud.
