Aaron's POV
Tonight is either gonna be our last game or our second to last game. I think we have it in us to win this game, no doubt. I believe in this team and I think we could easily make the state championship. What we do past that point I don't know. The team we could be playing is a team we barely beat in the regular season, one of our worst performances all year. That was the game I realized that I needed to find Cam. He looked so uncomfortable on the field that night, and I couldn't do anything but just try to find him, and that's exactly what I did.
Right now, we're listening to Coach Payton give us possibly our final pregame speech of all of our high school careers. It's still crazy to me that this is one of, if not my final, game in high school. I spent so much time improving that I can continue playing football, but this is always gonna be where I realized my passion for the sport.
"Alright, guys. I'm not gonna be emotional today," Coach Payton starts. "This could be many of your final games ever, and I just want to thank all of you for one of the most exciting seasons I've ever been a part of. An undefeated regular season has never occurred for this school, so I'm proud to have been a coach of this team."
He wipes his eye, maybe crying. Coach Payton has been one of the most important people in my life as well. He pushed me to that next level, motivating me to get better and better during every practice and critiquing my play in games.
"Anyways. Please play like this is your last football game ever. I want you playing your hearts out and I usually say that I want you having fun, and that's what I want you to do this game, but I want you to make their lives hell. I want to see you light them up on defense, lower the shoulder, all of that. Don't be too dirty though, I don't want you guys getting in trouble. Thank you for an amazing season, and if this is the final game for the seniors in this room, I wish all of you the best of luck in life after this. Thank you, that's all," he ends.
"LETS FUCKING GET THIS DUB!!!" Kai screams, throwing his helmet on and running onto the field, the rest of us following behind him.
Our opponents look not nearly as intense as us, casually walking onto the field.
The coin toss happens, with me, Cam, and Devin walking onto the field to shake hands with their team captains.
"You ready for this loss, bitches?" one of them asks, not meeting our eyes.
We don't respond, just standing on business, hands behind our backs, staying professional while they make themselves look like fucking clowns.
"You gonna answer us, pretty boys?" some fat offensive lineman asks.
We still don't respond, we continue to stay silent. Their trash talk isn't gonna get them anywhere, especially when the game hasn't started. If the game starts, trash talking is normal and fine. No one cares that much unless they're soft as hell.
They win the coin toss and go berserk, jumping up and down before opting to get the ball first, which is a fucking stupid decision. It's not smart to get the ball first, you don't get it first in the second half. They look like fucking clowns.
"You're going down, hoes. Say goodbye to your precious undefeated season," another one of the stupid ass hoes teases as we walk back to our bench, ignoring their dumbassery.
The kickoff is good, our special teams locking them up completely. Jax did exactly what Coach Payton said for him to do, lowering his shoulder into their returner, but doing it in a way that wouldn't be considered targeting. He did it clean.
One the first play of their drive, they throw a risky pass and it was completely fucking shit. Their quarterback was one of the bums that was shit talking us during the coin toss. The next play, Devin WWE bodyslams their quarterback onto the ground, walking back to his position without saying anything or celebrating. On the next play, Derek anticipates the run and again lowers his shoulder into their runningback, forcing them to punt.
