Two months passed by in which I had finally started going out again. Laura and Carla were absolutely thrilled that I had left my cave by choice but they could also feel that I was still healing from the break up. We were taking it slow by only going out for dinner or visiting events around Munich. Since it was May, it was getting warmer every day and so there was a lot to do in and around the city. In the meantime I considered Benito one of my friends as well. We talked on the phone every other day but mostly texted each other memes and stupid stuff we saw. He was touring at that moment and so he hadn't shown up at my apartment or in Munich unexpectedly again. That was until a Thursday evening, when I received a call from him. Benito had told me that he had a few days off before the next show.
"Hello?" I asked, my mouth still full with chips.
"Hi, Sab. I'll be in Munich in around 10 hours, would you come pick me up from the airport?" was all I heard.
"What?" I asked surprised.
"I am coming to Munich, are you gonna pick me up?" he repeated and I could hear that he chuckled afterwards.
"Alright, yeah, I'll pick you up." I responded. I was absolutely not thrilled to get up at four o'clock in the morning to pick Benito up but at the same time I was excited to see him again.
A big yawn escaped my lips while I was waiting in the arrival hall of the airport. Again, Benito had booked a commercial flight, so he, unlike last time he had to wait in line for his passport to be checked and to get his luggage. Since I knew how chaotic Munich's airport was, I had already expected something like that. About 30 minutes later - I was watching an episode of Elite on my phone - I could see the tips of sneakers stop in front of me.
"Hola, hermosa." I heard Benito's familiar voice. A smile spread across my face, then I stopped the episode and locked my phone. He had his bag swung over his back. I don't know how he always managed to look absolutely gorgeous, even after an eight hour flight, but he did. I jumped up from my bench and held out my hand for him to take. Chuckling, Benito grabbed it and pulled me into a long hug.
"How was your flight?" I asked as we let go of each other.
"I had a really good nap, finished writing a new song and finally started one of my books." he responded happily.
"Which book?" I wanted to know and started walking towards the exit.
"The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown." he told me and followed me.
"I love Dan Brown." I replied. Although I was very tired, I felt energetic. The drive to Benito's hotel went by faster than I had expected.
"Do you have a reason to come to Germany this time?" I asked, when I stopped in front of the hotel.
"Can I not visit a friend?" he counter questioned. I smiled at him and shook my head.
"You mean your wife." I joked, causing both of us to laugh. Benito looked at me with the biggest smile on his face, when he grabbed his bag from the back seat.
"What?" I asked, when he continued grinning.
"It was the first time you called yourself that." he responded. I nodded and blushed a little bit.
"Hurry, I wanna sleep!" I said because he still didn't want to leave the car. Nodding, he opened the door.
"Text me, when you wake up. I wanna see a little bit of your country when I'm here for vacation." he told me, before he pulled me into a side hug.
"Alright." I replied, then I watched him walk into the building.
It was around 11 o'clock, when I woke up from my nap. As promised, I sent Benito a text message and got out of bed. While I was showering, I was listening to music, so I didn't hear my phone ring. When I got out of the shower, it started ringing again.
"Yes, Benito." I answered it.
"Come over, I want to show you something, oh, and pack clothes for a few days." he said and hung up; I didn't even have the chance to respond. Confused, I dried myself off. As fast I could I grabbed a big bag from my closet and threw in four outfits, underwear and my bathroom essentials. It took me around an hour after that to get to the hotel. Benito was already waiting in the lobby when I entered it. Since I hated parking in downtown Munich, I had gone by subway. I was greeted by car keys Benito held up to my face.
"What's that?" I asked, eying them confused.
"If I remember correctly, your dream car is an Audi R8, right?" he gave back.
"Yes, and?" I questioned, not understanding what he wanted from me.
"Well, I rented one but I can't drive it because my license is invalid here." he answered and grabbed my hand. He was dragging me towards the exit, his bag in his other hand. At first I thought he was joking but no, when we left the building, I spotted the red car on the other side of the street.
"Where are we going, Benito?" I asked in disbelief.
"I booked us a room in Berlin, I've never been there." he answered, shrugging. I stopped in my tracks and stared at him. He grinned at me and kept walking.
"You're absolutely crazy." I mumbled, when we reached the car. He pressed the unlock button and opened the trunk to put our stuff in, then he handed the keys over to me. Benito got into the passengers seat while I hesitated with entering the car. As I sat down in the fancy leather seat, my heart was racing. I swear, when I started the engine, I could feel goosebumps all over my body. The look of adoration on Benito's face made me feel some type of way. While we were driving through the city and onto the highway, I was relatively calm but as soon as we reached the no speed limit part, I couldn't contain myself, I just had to know how fast the car could go. A happy squeal escaped my lips, this feeling was addicting.
"I have the perfect song for this." Benito said, connecting his phone with the speakers of the car. As soon as the first notes of 120 by him started playing, I started smiling. He was right, it was the perfect song for this. I hadn't felt so alive in years and I loved every single second of it.
