(Ezra pov)

When I wake, I'm no longer in my cell. I am strapped to a metal table in another dark room. The Inquisitor stands beside me. I groan. Then panic flashes through me when I see the restraints binding me to the table. I struggle against them.
"Don't bother," the Inquisitor says. "They are durasteel bonds. You can't break them with just your hands."
I glare at him. "Pointing out the obvious, Inquisitor?"
"Very well. I see that you are no longer broken at your friend's betrayal. So let's talk about someone else: Kanan Jarrus."
Fear floods my eyes. "Where is he?"
"Sadly, not here. With your pathetic rebel crew." I breathe a small sigh of relief.
"Well, I'm the bait for him, he won't fall for it. He's not an Imperial goon like you!" I tell him.
The Inquisitor smiles cruelly. "You are not bait, Padawan. Not so much as you might think. You are here for a different purpose entirely."
Uh oh. This can't be good, I think.
"To-" the Sith starts, but stops as Kanan bursts through the door, lightsaber glowing. "Not today, Sith."
"Oh, he won't fall for it, huh? Seems to me like he did?" The Inquisitor pulls out his own red blade-but doesn't engage Kanan. Instead, he backs up and holds the blade to my throat.
"One more step, Jarrus, and the Padawan dies," he threatens. Kanan stops dead in his tracks.
He mentally communicates to me with the Force: Are you okay?
Yes, I respond. Kanan sends calming Force energies towards me.
"Trying to calm him, huh?" The Inquisitor lowers the blade even further. "What could possibly keep him calm when his fate is coming?"
He's right. How am I supposed to keep calm when I'm facing death? Breathe, Ezra. Kanan will save you. Somehow, he will save you. Breathe.
Kanan realizes how terrified I am, and tells me that it'll be alright. That he'll get me out of here as soon as he can.
"Here's the thing, Jedi. I am under strict orders to only kill him if necessary. But my orders also were that if need be, I could hurt him. And I'll make it painful too."
My heart stops beating when the Inquisitor pulls out a knife from his cloak. Then my heart starts beating too fast when the knife moves towards me.
