Chapter 8: Food Yummy

Alchemy class was located in the greenhouse, where we had to put on white coats, black gloves, and lab goggles.

"Wonder if I'm gonna be okay without my magic..." Ace mumbles, adjusting his gloves.

"I think you'll be okay, you and Deuce survived the mines." I cheer him up, patting him on the head. "I believe in you, Ace."

"Ah- thanks..." Ace looks away. His ears are oddly red.

"What Yuu said- as long you've got that spirit, everything will turn out to be okay!" Deuce chimes in, as we enter the room.

"Well, well, if it isn't the new arrivals to my homeroom class." I hear a cracking sound, and turn to see a fancy man in a suit wearing a fur coat and holding a riding crop.

"Yuu and Grim, I presume? Crowley has informed me of your arrival. You two have very rare hair colors. Make sure to take care of them." Is he talking about our situation, my secret, or just our hair in general? Everybody in this world speaks in riddles.

"I shall start with an introduction: My name is Divus Crewel, the homeroom teacher of Class 1A, and now your homeroom teacher as well. You may even call me Master Crewel."

"Huh? Master Crewel?" Grim says, puzzled.

I look at him, up and down, at the riding crop, then back to him. I nod and bow. "It's nice to meet you, Master Crewel."

Grim, still puzzled, looks at me with a look that can only be described as observational and a tad bit of confusion and concern. "Wow, Henchman's accepted it just like that."

"Now, hurry and take your seats, you four! Class will begin soon."

We all take our seats next to each other as Master Crewel begins today's class. I bring out the chemistry book and notebook as he starts. "We've had our subject orientations yesterday, so I shall have you all memorize the names and appearances of 100 different types of medicine and poison. This is important as to ensure you all don't go around getting poisoned by eating random things off the ground. Dogs will eat whatever is lying around, after all."

I look at Grim.

"What're ya looking at...?"

"Nothing much."

"We shall cover the fungi later, so focus on the task I have given you. There will be no failing my class whatsoever. You will be trained under my firm hand."

Deuce studies diligently. "I see... by the way, what's a fungi?"

"Fungi are groups of plants that have cells with a membrane-bound nucleus. If you want examples, I'd say mycelium and yeast are goods ones." I explain. "But don't focus on that, Master Crewel says to study medicines and poisons. I can help you if you need it."

"Thanks, Yuu!"

Ace groans as he looks through his textbook. "Blegh... I'm not good at memorization."

"Who gives what about what mushroom's bad or not? All I care about is if it tastes yucky or yummy." Grim grumbles, yawning.

I write in my notebook, being sure to note down all the topics required. All of this stuff is pretty easy to memorize, most of these look like the pills and medicinal syrups given to patients in Miss Natasha's clinic and in the pharmacies of other worlds. Whatever the case, it's more convenient for me.

Our next class was History of Magic in the 1-A classroom, where the teacher was an old man with a big fluffy black cat in his arms. I look at him closely. Have I seen that cat before...?
