Chapter Three

The next morning, four people had ice packs with them. I smirked at the three out in the bullpen but gave sad eyes to the fourth as he sat in his office. "How's the swelling?" I asked when I walked in.

Jack smiled and removed the ice pack to show me. "Not terrible, not even bruising that badly which is nice. I think the prosthetic took most of the damage."

I smiled and remembered how much fun it was to go back to my apartment and peel off everything. Anything I could throw away, I did, but there were a few metal pieces and molds I had to return to the disguise department. That's what I had just done before coming in to say hello.

"Do we have any thoughts on what to do next?" I asked him.

He shook his head and I deflated slightly. "We don't have any intel on any parties coming up tonight so we don't think she's going to be easy to find now. There might be one tomorrow but I'm still working on that," he explained.

"So there might be something tomorrow, but definitely nothing tonight?" I clarified, getting an idea in my head.

Jack nodded, not seeing where I was going. So, I shared my idea out loud. "Why don't we leave early and go to dinner? As Jack and Tiffany, not as Mr. and Mrs. Watson," I suggested, adding my British accent on to the end.

This brought a grin out of Jack and he leaned back in his chair, considering the idea. "Why not, it's not like your boss is going to say no when he's involved too," he said. "I'll go ahead and take care of reservations, too."

With a quick glance to make sure the blinds were closed and no one was watching, I stepped towards him and gave him a kiss. "Then I'll see Jack tonight. For now, Chief, I'll get back to work." He rolled his eyes with a smile as I walked out of the office and sat at my own desk.

I hadn't been working too long when I suddenly got a phone call.

"Jones speaking," I answered once I had the phone in my hand and up to my ear.

"Well there's a voice I haven't heard in quite some time."

I smiled and left the file forgotten in front of me. "Frank Campbell, it is always fantastic to hear from you," I replied. "And as much as I love to hear from you, it's almost always with something. Never just a hello."

"Hopefully next time I call it's just to say hello. But, you're right, I've got something for you." The way his voice got less joyful made me frown. "Remember your good friend Henry Edwards of Miami?"

Sighing and leaning back, I answered, "Oh, how could I forget the lovely time we spent together. I mean, come on Frank, I was his hostage. A girl can't forget that."

Luckily, Frank understood my sense of humor, and laughed on the other end. "Yeah, well, we've been working him since we've had him in custody. At first, he wasn't all that willing to talk."

"Figures."

"But, we've gotten enough stuff together to send you a file. We got some names, a couple pictures, and some rough plans outlined. You were right, by the way- there was a mole in the office. He's refused to give that up, but I'm sure we can... persuade him."

I smiled. "Frank, you know how to make a girl's day. How long until you send it out?"

"Already have. Should hopefully be there soon, end of the week by the latest. The SSR can get some pretty good priority shipping when it's needed. Just know it's not gonna be the biggest file ever."

"Anything you can go ahead and tell me about it?"

"Meh, nothing too exciting. The only interesting thing is the photographs and a name... I can't remember it, but it was something with a 'P'."

I laughed. "That's extremely helpful, thank you so much. I'll let you know when I get it and maybe you'll have some more for me from Edwards when I do."

We wrapped our conversation up by chatting a little bit about non-work related things. It was nice getting to talk to Frank again. Since leaving the Miami office, our relationship had moved from being professional to a bit more casual, which made me want to tell him about Jack.

However, I was surrounded by prying eyes and ears- a pair of each belonging to someone I truly didn't want to hear this stuff- so I didn't say anything.

We said our goodbye and hung up, and I had to remember what I was doing with the file in front of me.

I was just getting back into the swing when someone walked up and stopped a foot in front of my desk.

Looking up, my mood dampened significantly. "Was, uh... was that Frank on the phone with you?" Martinez asked.

I glared at him. "Do you need something?" I asked, hoping the answer was no.

He awkwardly cleared his throat. "I need that file- whenever you're done, of course."

Just to make him go away faster, I closed the file up and shoved it into his hands. Martinez mumbled a small 'thanks' and went over to his desk. The fact that his was still right next to mine just irked me.

However, there was one thing that made me smirk after my encounter with Martinez: the nice bruise on the side of his face, courtesy of Dottie. It looked like it hurt and I hoped it did.

The rest of the day went on slowly, considering I was excited now for two things. The first, of course, being my date tonight and the second being the file coming my way the next day. Plus, it was just one of those days were there wasn't a lot going on. Of course, this is a good thing overall, but it meant the bullpen was quiet and everyone was bored.

By five o'clock, I was out of there so I could get to my apartment and be ready in time for our date. Jack was getting ready to leave when I was walking out. Peggy had wanted to come and help me get ready, but she really wanted to find Dottie, too.

"Don't worry, Peg, I'll be fine. I've been dressing myself for a few years now, so I think I know how to do it," I joked. She rolled her eyes.

"Well, have fun tonight. You can tell me all about it tomorrow either at work or during lunch. We will figure it out then," she said.

I waved her goodbye, along with Daniel, and hurried away to the Griffith.

A/n: this was short only because the next chapter is longer and I wanted it to be its own chapter. A date with Jack!! It's so exciting :D

Apologies for the late posting! Work is work and all, and I've been slow on writing more. But here's this! I have a handful of chapters left before I run out lol
