On the Run

ELLIOT POV

It only took about 10 minutes to find a 24 hour pizza place and get our food ordered. They had hot wings I was excited to try and we added a cookie brownie hybrid as well as a 2 liter of Sprite to the order. Cordy even thought to ask for plates, napkins, and cups.  She reasoned that even if we get to head home in the morning that would be good to keep in a Go bag for future times we have to run.

Tonight did not go as expected, but the movie we did get to see was great. There was a lot of laughter throughout the audience and it was good to see Josh again as well as meet his girlfriend.  My backpack was set with comfy clothes as well as a phone charger and basic toiletries but Cordy insisted on just getting new stuff at the store while we were there.

May as well save the travel sized stuff we have tucked away until a time when we don't have a store nearby.  The safe house tucked in the woods was far from any grocery stores so she made a good point.

Cordy took her French braids out and pulled her hair into a messy bun. "I'm gonna go change a sec," she said with a soft smile before heading to the bathroom with some comfier clothes.

I settled on one of the beds and used the laptop to check my email so I could send Ethan a message. We talked about this previously and Aidan said as long as we got the all clear it was okay to take a peek at that but we needed to stay off social media.  The VPN was a big help but since Lewis had access to a lot of our tracking information as one of the bodyguards everything was different now.

Ethan responded quickly and said he was worried after hearing what was going on. He planned to be at the house the following day so I promised we would check in when we could.

It was nice that my friend was worried about me. My family and I have never been that close, especially since my parents retired and moved to California.

Cordy returned in sweatpants and an oversized t shirt, her face freshly washed while flopping onto the opposite bed and staring at the ceiling.

Our evening was full of tension and uncertainty.  While I may not know Cordelia Townsend incredibly well at this point, I knew enough to see how hard this was for her to process.

I checked our pizza order tracking and noticed they were finishing the order. "So, Cordy?" I asked, looking toward her as she clasped her hands over her stomach.

"Huh?"

"What's the play? Talking or not talking? You know I love both..."

She sat up while huffing out a laugh and met my eyes, bright smile now on her face. "Well, with that reference it has to be talking." Cordy was quiet and let out a long breath, "I'm mostly worried about my Dad. He had a minor heart attack a few months back so his doctor put him on medication but I hate how much stress he is under as it is.  Aidan is a trained medic and we have medical staff we can call if needed but just.... I mean... I don't want him to know how stressed we are.  He is already panicking so that won't help anything.  "

"Shit..." I breathed, leaning my head back against the headboard .

"What are you most worried about?"

After a moment I replied, "I think the idea that we could be found. As long as they don't know where we are it will be fine. We can video chat, keep track of email and the news, and just move place to place for a bit to stay off the radar. Honestly, it's nerve wracking but not as bad as I expected.  You were right about getting a few basic groceries to have on hand.  It's nice to have Dr. Pepper in the fridge and space for leftover pizza."

"I have a few joints in my Go bag but we can't smoke in the room our Josh's car," Cordy mused, darting her eyes to me with a smirk. "Okay, so, tomorrow we can take a drive to get lunch after I dye my hair and you shave. When we're out we can find some wooded area with a creek or lake or something and relax.  It would also work to grab more groceries if there is anything we think of."
