I Have Nothing

CORDELIA POV

The video call connected quickly and I let out a breath of relief when my Dad appeared on the screen with Aidan.  They were seated in the control room and each had a glass of whiskey they were sipping.

"Oh, Cordy..." he breathed, voice shaky as he seemed to be studying the wound on my neck.  "Are you okay?"

I nodded, "We are safe.  Elliot and I just ordered pizza so we can eat our feelings but no one followed us and we did a really amazing job packing the car."

"The paper towels and extra water bottles came in handy," Elliot added, smiling softly at me before turning back to the camera.  :We agreed that has to be in every getaway car in the future."

Dad  was still struggling to calm himself after all the chaos at the Museum but Aidan reassured us they were monitoring his blood pressure.  We chatted about how they got home and the way Josh was still helping at the museum but tried to keep the conversation light.

It was a miracle no one else was injured but the cops were able to arrest Lewis as well as 3 other members of the Resistance. The man that tried to hold me hostage was the first one they caught thanks to Aidan's stun gun.

He's a genius. No shock there.

Josh sent us an email with some photos from the crime scene.  My blood left a trail down the hallway we used to escape but while running Elliot took his tie off and helped me use it to stop the bleeding.  I closed the email after a quick glance since seeing evidence of how badly injured I was made me nauseous.

Good thing the Go bags are also stocked with pain and nausea medication along with Benadryl.  I would need it so my body got rest after so much stress.

We tried to calm ourselves with reassurances and promises to stay in touch, but it felt hollow.

All I want is to be near my Dad. I want to be home, where I can safely roam the halls of my gilded cage.  I want to sit in the control room with our team while we can see one another in person instead of on a screen.

Instead, Elliot and I were at a midrange chain hotel with decent sized rooms and a good variety of nearby restaurants.

We were safe... and had to keep reminding ourselves of that fact while the adrenaline rush dissipated.

Our food arrived while we were on the video call so Elliot jogged downstairs to while I stayed on the call.

"Seriously, Cordy, how do you feel?" Dad asked while I tried to relax.  "My sweet girl, if anything ever happened to you..."

I shrugged, which made my cut hurt, then admitted, "The only reason I got out of there alive was Elliot holding onto my hand while Aidan stun gunned the guy. Elliot basically dragged me to the car while my mind was in a fog. He ripped off his tie so we could use it to stop the bleeding but I still have no idea how we got on the highway so fast.  Once we got on the road and I changed everything sank in a bit more but at that point he was panicking so I was able to give him support." I paused, looking into my Dad's eyes, "This could have been a lot worse but thankfully we were prepared.  Thankfully you found the right man for the job."

"You may need to be gone longer this time, depending on what the cops find out," Aidan said while shaking his head. "The cops did say so far that they discovered the Resistance guys and Lewis got in from another Donor who supported them. I was furious, of course. Lewis is telling everything so at least now we can take the cameras down from your sitting room."

"That's a relief," I agreed as Elliot rejoined me. "Well, our food is here so why don't we sign off then touch base tomorrow? I'll send a message when we're up and around but everyone needs some rest.  I have pain and nausea meds I'll take so you know I won't be coherent til mid afternoon if we're lucky."
