If I had to tell the truth, I was really nervous. Like, regretting ever coming here kind of nervous. But I wasn't backing down. This was my only chance for me to get what I...what I needed. I needed something different. Nothing was good enough anymore. And that's why I was here. Outside of his office. He owned massive amounts of real estate out on the upper west side. His company keeps expanding and expanding by the year. I couldn't even guess how much he's worth. Anyway I was going to have a meeting with him. Not for a job-well technically it is, but not here, the job requirements are a bit different. My stomach started rumbling. I really should've eaten something before I left. My alarm clock didn't sound so I only had time to, and barely, get an outfit together and-

"Miss Liz?" I jump up at attention to the secretary behind her desk.

"It's-"

"Mister King'll be seeing you now." I walk to the door of his office mumbling a thanks to the woman before knocking on the door lightly. I almost knocked again unsure if he even heard it. But just as I raised my hand, I heard the gruff voice behind the door.

"Come." It sent a shiver down my spine. If I'd known just his voice could have this kind of impact on me, I'd have been a bit less nervous. I opened and closed the door as quickly as I could. Holy... The room was...big. A bit unnecessary. But I wasn't going to be ungrateful. It was gorgeous I suppose. The afternoon light flooded the space from the floor to ceiling window overlooking the west side of Central Park and right in front sat the man behind a massive mahogany desk. Mister Robert King.

"I said sit."

"Oh! I'm sorry, I was just-"

"Quiet." I shut my mouth. He hasn't even looked up from his desk.

"Will we be discussing-"

"All in good time." He still looked down. I refused to let this become awkward.

"So, I was wondering if you could talk about-" I was cut off once again by Mister King slamming his pen down onto his desk.

"I thought you'd understand at some point but obviously I was mistaken." He muttered loud enough for me to hear.

"Excuse me?"

"You've come in here to ask for a private position and you failed one of the first tests I give you."

"What are you...?" I question. I'm honestly so confused.

"You may be new but I expected you to at least research the basics."

"The...basics?"

"You didn't prepare for this at all did you?" He folded his hands together looking at me like a father scolding a daughter. And it felt just like that too. I lowered my head in shame even though I wasn't quite sure what it was I did wrong. "How can I expect you to learn anything without at least something in your head about what you'll endure."

"I'm sorry, I-"

"Just-stop talking." I shut my mouth again. "Now, I have it on good authority that you are only looking for training, is that correct?"

Finally! We are getting somewhere.

"Yes, I'm new to all of it really and I don't feel like I'm ready to go through something as extreme-"

"When I ask a yes or no question, a simple yes or no would suffice Miss Liss." Jeez this guy was strict. "Because this won't be a full time arrangement you won't be needing to sign any paperwork as of now but I do want you to look over the kind of contract you would have to sign should it come to that sort of agreement with anyone you seem fit." He moved his hand to a drawer at the bottom left of his desk, pulling out a packet of about ten to twelve pages. That's the contract?! Jesus, do people actually read that thing? He stood up. I think I stopped breathing momentarily because of how tall he was. Definitely over six feet. My eyes followed him as he rounded the desk and leaned casually against it right in front of me before handing me the papers. They were heavy in my hands. I began to thumb through it and I was only two pages through skimming when something caught my eye.
