Ben is a "stand-in android." Things make sense to me now. There's a tiny fraction of relief in this truth.
Stand-ins are pretty new. Stand-ins have become popular. Maybe I should've seen it. Instead of creating an android from scratch and building a life of fictitious memories, like with Prue, a stand-in takes the place of someone who has died, their memory built from personal data and social media posts, and as much oral history as they can gather from close family and friends.
But some things can get left out. People can ask for things to be left out.
I should've seen this with Ben.
