"Tiana, no, don't fall asleep!"
Her eyes have closed, and I can't get her to open them.
"Wake up, Tiana. Stay with me, please. I'm here, it's Ben, I'm still here with you. Just open your eyes – open them and look at me, please."
It's no use. She has slipped off, and she's slipping deeper; I can see it. And there's nothing I can do. This isn't fair. None of this is fair. I'm programmed to love, and Tiana is who I love, but she keeps slipping deeper away from me.
I feel the tears in my eyes. They're as real as anything.
I have to remember this. She wanted me to remember this.
I have to remember our story.
I wipe my tears.
I remember I love her.
I remember she made me feel I belonged when I didn't even understand how lost I was.
I remember laughing.
I remember her blue hair – the same blue as mine.
I remember all this snow.
I remember her sleeping. I haven't looked away, and I won't.
