~Katie’s POV~

I woke up to Ashton’s head resting in the crook of my neck, his arm wrapped around my waist.

“No, no, no, no, no… this cannot be happening,” I whispered, which made him stir. I reached for my phone before the party, putting it on the charger in his room.

To: Bestie <3>
Hey, I’m alive. Yeah, Ashton found me… I’ll be at the dorm soon.

From: Cal :)
Where are you?
I saw you and Ashton go upstairs. Are you ok?

To: Cal <3>
Hey, I’m ok, upstairs. Actually, I can hear you talking. I’ll be down in a second.

I managed to slip away from Ashton’s grip to put my dress back on.

“Ashton, get up,” I said, tossing his shirt at him.

“Fuck… what time is it?” he groaned, sitting up.

“9:40. Everyone thinks we’re dead,” I said, rushing to put on my shoes.

“Katie, come here. We need to actually talk now.”

“But Ash—”

“Here. Now. Sit.”

“Fine,” I said, sitting down.

“Look, Katie, I like you. This isn’t some middle school crush. I actually like you, okay? I don’t know if you like me, but—”

“I do, Ashton. But we can’t. I mean… doing this to Calum—we can’t. You said you’d promise it wouldn’t change anything, and I’m going to try my absolute hardest to keep that promise,” I said.

“So… just friends?”

“Just friends,” I confirmed, standing up.

“Katie, you need different clothes.”

“Why?”

“One, you need something to cover that,” he said, motioning to my neck. I glanced in the mirror and saw the hickey he’d left.

“Really, Ashton? Did you have to?” I semi-yelled.

“One, yes, yes I did. And two, I’m not letting you go back in a party dress,” he said, handing me a hoodie and sweatpants that I tied up.

Once we made it downstairs, I walked into the living room to see Calum, Luke, Niall, Zayn, and the other Katie on the couch.

“Yep, they definitely… did it. Niall, give me my $20,” Katie said, holding out her hand.

“Wait, let her speak,” Niall said, putting his hand over her mouth to avoid losing the money.

“Calum, before you start—nothing happened,” I said, raising my hands.

“YES!” Niall yelled.

“I don’t believe you, but I’ll let it slide… you have to go back to the dorm. Caitlin was worried about you,” he added.

“I’ll drive her back,” Ashton said, so I hurried out the door.

“NIALL, GIVE HER $20 SO I DON’T HAVE TO!” I yelled, and Ashton laughed behind me.

Ashton caught up to me and whispered, “You gonna get me in trouble?”

“Maybe that’s the point,” I said with a smile, and he laughed.
