guysss i havent posted anything in foreverrrr
for JustSmileMore, because only the coolest people get attacked by lawnmowers.
(*bonus- there's some tratie!!)
Jason.
"JASON!" I hear Katie Gardner scream behind me, but Travis and Connor Stoll are laughing. "DAMN IT, STOLLS, GET BACK HERE!"
Reluctantly, I stop sprinting away from Cabin Four. "C'mon, Travis!" I call to him, but he keeps running. "She's your girlfriend!"
"And you're the one who pissed her off!" he yells back, and him and his brother just duck into their cabin. Jerks.
I walk back to the Demeter cabin, bracing myself for Katie's lecture on how campers have 'no right to pick our beautiful flowers for their dumb-ass girlfriends who aren't that dumb but you idiots are.'
Instead, she crosses her arms and glares at me. "Thank the gods you fess up to your mistakes," she growls. I just shrug, slightly terrified that if I say anything she'll make vines grow out of the ground that could potentially kick my balls. "So, would you like to choose you punishment?"
"Uh-"
"Good one!" she says, and her sarcasm smacks me across the face. She stomps into her cabin, and I briefly consider running.
"Hey Sparky!" I hear behind me, and my hands are already slick with sweat. "Why are you-"
I turn to Piper and offer a small smile before she can say anything. "Just take them," I whisper, and hand her the flowers I had stole from Katie's garden. Watching her tentatively grab the now-wilted flowers makes my attempt to be romantic worse that it was in the first place.
"Aw.." she starts to say, and I swear to the gods if she says it's cute I might just hoot that I actually did something for our relationship. "This is really sweet of you Ja-"
"Alright, Lighting Boy, you're not going to like this," Katie finally yells out of her cabin, and she comes walking out, dragging a red lawnmower behind her. "Oh, hey Pipes."
"Hey Ka-" but she stops herself and grins. "Did he really?"
"Oh, yeah," Katie tells her. "With the help of THE WORST BOYFRIEND OF ALL TIME!" she yells in hopes of Travis hearing.
He does. "LOVE YOU TOO, BABE," Travis yells from his cabin, and slams the door shut.
"I love that kid," Katie mutters with a smile, and Piper and I share a look and pretend not to hear. "So, Lightning Boy, say hello to Moe." She pats the lawnmower and it purrs.
"Hello Moe," I murmur quietly.
Katie grins evilly. "Moe is a gift to us from the Hephaestus cabin. Don't ask, it's a long story. Anyways, Moe's programed to cut hedges, bushes, grass and pull weeds. But..." she trails off, and Piper giggles. "You won't be pulling normal weeds today, Lighting Boy."
I'm slighting agitated that she keeps calling me Lighting Boy, since I keep my nicknames reserved for Piper and Leo, but I did steal her flowers, so I let it slide. "Oh gods," I mutter.
"You'll be pulling those." Katie points at some giant flowers on the roof.
"Oh, c'mon," I groan, smiling. "That's the punishment?"
"You just wait," she smirks, and turns on her heal, calling out the Piper, "I wouldn't watch your pretty boy get eaten."
Piper laughs. "You ready for this, Pretty Boy?"
I try not to smile too widely and search for a ladder, which is actually leaning against the cabin. "A little help, Beauty Queen?" I ask when I try to shove Moe up the ladder.
But she's sitting in the grass, looking up at me with amusement. "Ha-ha. No."
Somehow, I get Moe up onto the roof, where he (she?) sighs with what seems like doubt. The Demeter cabin's roof is all grass, accept for those flowers I'm supposed to pull. Examining the lawnmower a little more closely, I realize that a little screen is on the handle, softly beeping out the depth of the grass that they're standing on and how many flowers are on the roof.
"Impressive," I mutter, and gently push Moe to get him (her?) going. It doesn't move, so I push it again. "Moe," I grumble, "Please mow the lawn?" The screen flashes green for a second, then red, then green again. I'm more that confused now.
I try shoving Moe again, but with no luck at all. "Gods," I grumble, pushing Moe even harder with my weight, "Why isn't this stupid thing wor-"
Moe takes off at lighting speed (I would know), and I can barely hold on with the tips of my fingers as it twists and turns across the roof. My feet aren't even touching the ground when my vision becomes a spiral of only green, blue and red. I can vaguely hear Piper screaming for Katie.
"Having fun, Lighting Boy?" Katie shouts up at me. She's laughing, but then her shouts become serious. "Do you even have control?!"
"Not really!" I call back, gritting my teeth. Moe's engine roars and it's all I can hear. My arms start to ache for what seems like hours of holding on, and I'm on the verge of letting go when Moe flys off the roof. My first instinct is the dig my heals into the ground to stop myself and Moe from falling, but it's even too late for me to let go of the handle.
Moe and I crash into the grass head first (for me, at least. Do lawnmowers have heads?). I'm so dizzy, I feel like I'm on the Argo II again, bracing myself in my room while Leo steers us through another storm. I curl up on the grass to feel solid ground.
"Jason!" I hear Piper's voice, but she seems far away and coming from all directions. "Oh gods, Katie, was that supposed to happen?"
"Nope," Katie says, "Moe's never taken off like that."
"Jason, bro, that was epic!" I begin to open my eyes, and Piper is kneeling by my head. Travis, Connor and Katie are behind her, but they aren't as worried as Piper is. She shakes my shoulder. "Jace, are you okay?"
"Uhhh," I groan (or something like that). "My head..."
Katie just smirks. "Punishment served." But then she gives Travis a little peck on the cheek. "We'll have to see about you."
Connor's jaw drops. "I'd like that punishment."
Katie laughs again. "Nu-uh. You guys-" she points in a random direction, and I assume that's where Moe had ran off to. "-Are going to catch Moe."
Connor groans and runs to follow Moe's wheel-tracks, but Travis hangs back and smiles down at Katie. "I liked that punishment, too."
"Oh really?" Katie asks mockingly, and I sit up in time to see them mesh their fingers together. "Because I did, too."
I turn away before they kiss and try to focus on Piper.
"You okay, Superman?" Piper asks quietly, and my eyes finally focus on her smile as my head clears.
"Mmmm," I grumble, but smile because I feel better anytime Piper's at my side. "I think my lips are hurt."
"Aw," she says in a baby tone. "Do you need a kiss to make it feel better?"
I just smile as we lean in and she makes my bruises fade.
