So... this has been getting too fluffy. This is where Maul showes up.
As much as Cody loved sitting in the palace in Keldabe, dealing with Mandalore's internal politics during the day and being with his riduur at night, he couldn't do that forever. He was the expected to be the future mand'alor, there had to be some responsibilities to that. So there he was, preparing for a meeting with dathomirian leaders.
"Cody?"
Cody turned around tiredly to glance at his riduur. "Do you need something?"
"I'm sorry if I disturbed you, I can come back later."
"Just tell me what you need."
"I just wanted to sk if you agreed with the choice of my clothes for the meeting."
"I'm sorry, what?"
"Do you agree with my choice of clothes for the event? If you think it's not suitable, you can of course replace it with whatever outfit you chose."
Cody blinked. "You are asking my approval to wear the robes you want to wear?"
"Yes. If you are not happy with my choices, just chose whatever you think would be more fitting."
Cody didn't know what to do. Kriff, he didn't even know what to think. Obi-Wan, his wonderful, smart, beautiful, confident Obi-Wan, was asking him for a kriffing permission to wear what he liked. And he was asking like it was kriffing normal to control what someone wears. As if Cody would control what Obi-Wan wears. "Wear whatever you want," he said in the end.
"Do you have any preferences?"
"No, just wear whatever you want. I don't care about your clothes and even if I did, it's not my place to control what you wear."
"You are the crown prince of Mandalore," Obi-Wan objected. "I'm just your partner."
It made Cody sick. To think of Obi-Wan like that. Like he was just a pretty face at Cody's side, his doll to dress up and to fuck. "Obi-Wan... Cyare... Did I ever- did I ever make you feel like you are something less than me?"
"No," Obi-Wan shook his head with a small smile.
"Great because we are equal. You don't need my permission for anything," Cody assured him.
"Thank you, Cody."
"Don't thank me," Cody said. It sounded sharper than he intended and his heart ached when Obi-Wan flinched. "You don't have to thank me for this, cyare. You don't have to thank me for treating you like a free person."
"You are too nice to me."
"You deserve kindness, Obi-Wan," Cody pulled Obi-Wan into a gentle mirshmure'cya before letting him go. He was already thinking about how he will prove his riduur that they are equal.
The trip to Dathomir was awkward to say at least.
