Max's right arm snapped first. Then her right leg. Then her left arm. Her eyes began to bleed as Vecna's curse tore into her soul.
Ruby gasped in terror, stumbling backwards as Lucas screamed out for Max. She yelled out for Max but it was too late, Max had never been able to tell Ruby that she loved her back. Max and Ruby would never to go the cinema on Friday. They'd never be able to truly be at peace and love with one another. Ruby truly had lost everyone she'd ever cared about. Sobs racked her body as she and Lucas grabbed onto each other for comfort.
Max had changed her life and that was pretty miraculous for a girl who was terrified to let anyone in. No one apart from Chrissy had ever been there for Ruby like Max had. Her Max. The girl she loved. The girl she loved that was dead.
Vecna had won. He'd taken every person in her life and destroyed them. He'd destroyed her.
Unless.
Max suddenly dropped to the floor into Ruby's arms. Broken, bleeding, unresponsive, but alive.
"Max," Lucas yelled, half relief, half terror.
"Oh baby," Ruby whispered as tears poured down her cheeks. She rocked Max softly.
"Lucas!' Erica yelled as she burst in
"We need a doctor! Call an ambulance! Hurry! Call an ambulance!" he yelled to his sister who gasped at Max's state and ran back out the house.
"Ruby..." Max gasped gutturally.
"Yes, yes I'm here. We're here," Ruby sobbed as Lucas covered his mouth to quieten his cries.
"I... I can't feel or...see anything," Max stammered.
"I know. I know. It's okay. We're gonna get you help, okay? Just... Just hold on please," Ruby begged.
"I'm scared. I'm so scared. I'm so scared," Max whimpered.
"I know. I know. I know," Ruby shook with tears as she held Max.
"I don't wanna die. I'm not ready."
"You're not gonna die. Hang on," Lucas sobbed.
"I don't wanna go! I'm not ready," Max sobbed as she grasped onto her last few breaths.
"You're not gonna die! Just... just please hang on Max" Ruby sobbed as Max sobbed, before closing her eyes and beginning to fade.
Max! Max! No, no, no, Max. Stay with us," Lucas yelled desperately.
"No. Stay with us. Stay with me," Ruby shuddered as her tears flowed and mixed in with the blood that stained Max's cheeks.
"Stay with us, Max. Hang on. Just hang on," Lucas begged desperately, shaking with his sobs.
"Erica, help!" he yelled, his voice breaking with agony.
"Max come on, I love you. I love you Max, please come back to us," Ruby held the shaking girl in her arms as she sobbed.
Max's breaths began to fade, one last tear escaping from her eye.
"No Max please!" Lucas gave a sob of anguish. Ruby buried her head into Lucas' side as the pair sobbed together. Their best friend was gone. Vecna had won.
Creel House suddenly began to shake as if an earthquake had struck it. The ground began to tear apart, a Gate ripping open the fabric of their universe. Lucas dragged Max and Ruby away from the opening tear which split apart the floorboards.
"Wait my-" Ruby gasped as she remembered Jason passed out on the floor. But it was too late. Whipping her head around she glanced over to see the Gate rip through Jason, pulling him apart. The boy howled in agony as he dissolved into the Gate, his body burning as it ripped through him.
